I really, really hope I don't have to eat my words about Hillary |
|
I've maintained for some time that Hillary will concede and back Obama either when the primaries end or when he reaches the requisite number to become the presumptive nominee. I still believe that. Why? Because I think Hillary Clinton is essentially a pragmatist who doesn't want to destroy her political career/legacy. I don't think she's so out of touch with reality that she doesn't understand the repercussions of carrying her failed campaign into the summer and on to Denver. I don't see how it's feasible to do so when she's so deeply in debt and when the party doesn't support her forging ahead.
I hope I'm right, not because I'll have to admit I was wrong, but because despite all the things that have angered me about the Clinton campaign, all the lows she's stooped to, I've been able to largely steer clear of believing the worst about her- that she really doesn't give a damn about anything beyond her own ambition.
What Hillary Clinton does in the next couple of weeks will tell us if she actually cares at all about the future of this country.

If we have to eat our words, then at least we can do it together...I hate eating alone. :D
I know the tension on DU is pretty high (ridiculously so in GDP), but I honestly am not bothered by the long primary season. It would have been nice if they didn't start so early this time, but the way I see it, the entire world is focused on two very competent and capable Democrats right now.
Once this primary is over, I have a feeling our ADD media will be tired of covering the Democratic nominee and will want to focus on McCain again...the perfect time for the Democrats to hit him fast and hard.

5. I would hope this is the case |

Just as I would hope that Obama would do the same thing if the situation was reversed. What both candidates need to do now to help the party is to start going after McCain as much as they possibly can. Obama has started this, which only helps strengthen the impression that he is the nominee. Clinton needs to be doing the same thing.
