Poll: Hillary Beats McCain In Kentucky, Obama Loses Big
Poll: Hillary Beats McCain In Kentucky, Obama Loses Big
By Eric Kleefeld - May 26, 2008, 9:05AM

Barack Obama's Appalachia problem couldn't be more apparent in a new Rasmussen poll, with Hillary Clinton winning Kentucky in the general election, and Obama losing it in a landslide:

McCain (R) 57%, Obama (D) 32%
Clinton (D) 51%, McCain (R) 42%

Sample size: 500 likely voters.
Margin of error: ±4%

Obama has done well among white voters in many other parts of the country, but the Appalachian region has become something of a no man's land for him. And with that region spanning a lot of electoral votes, this poll definitely gives some weight to Hillary Clinton's arguments on electability.

5. Hey DemVet - who's leading the popular vote right now?
Who has more popular votes?

Who has won more states?

Who has more superdelegates?

Who has raised more money?

Quit acting like just because Obama isn't doing well in one particular region, that it means he's "unelectable".

Seriously, stop talking, because you have no idea what you're saying.

You don't need appalachia to win VA. You need the South Eastern part of the state and Northern Virgina. You win those two areas, which skew to Obama's demographic, and you'll romp in the state.

Every presidential candidate who has won Virginia over the last few decades has won Western Virginia.

NOVA is trending Democratic, but there are not enough votes there to put the Democrats over the top.

Edited on Tue May-27-08 10:59 AM by Wolsh
Because, I mean, just looking at my resume, I was still working in VA politics a year and a half ago. I mean MAYBE you know more then me, looking at your almanac in New Jersey, but I'm pretty sure I know a shade more then you when it comes to Virginia's evolving political climate.

So keep up your spin, maybe some people will buy it, but when it comes to VA, you are way WAY out of your league.

I need to remind The Enablers that Bill Clinton won WV because of Ross Perot. In 1996, Dole/Kemp was a weak ticket.

So Obama will most likely lose the bigots in WV and KY. WV only has 5 electoral votes. Obama will make up for that in places like VA and NC. I'm sure of that! ;)

Obama doesn't need Kentucky.
For the past 52 years, Kentucky has only voted for southerners and Republicans in national presidential elections. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are neither, so they would have to defy half a century of electoral history to pull out a victory in that state.

Hillary is a radical magnet. NOBODY in politics today can draw a bigger bunch of MORANS out to vote against the DEMS. And that damages more than the presidential race; it damages all the down ticket DEM candidates too.

29. and why do you suppose that is? Do you think it is because of the Supreme Court?
Do you think it is because of the Iraq War?

How about Social Security and Medicare?

What about healthcare?

Jobs, are a big issue also, and of course food and energy

Looking at the sampling it is relatively small, 500 LV
adding the total percentages up give us the following:

Obama verses mccain 89%
Clinton verse mccain 96%

That implies that 7% of the clinton voters will sit out, and the remaining will switch to mccain

This poll implies the following:

A significant percentage of those Clinton supporters in this poll do NOT care about the issues, only that THEIR candidate wins

That speaks volumes on the intelligence of those particular supporters

If THEIR candidate is not the nominee, and they decide not to vote for the Democratic nominee or vote for mccain, they deserve the consequences.

I do not believe this poll is reality, because the stakes our quite high, and the Supreme Court matters

32. Guess what? When Huckabee was in the race...
...he garnered 60 percent of the vote in Kansas, and McCain snagged only 25 percent.

At least Huckabee wasn't a deranged fool, who sauntered around the countryside, screaming, "I
won a state!! Therefore McCain is unelectable and we need that state to win in the General
Election! This is evidence that I'm the better candidate. He can't win these hardworking,
white votes in Kansas!"

It's not about one state. Everyone realizes that, except Hillary.

Actually, it's about the delegate count, and there's no way she catches up. Obama is our
nominee, and we'd like to get started with the GE--but Hillary's too busy hanging around in
a race she can't and won't win.

At least Huckabee knew when to get out. At least Huckabee had some dignity and class, instead
of behaving like petulant jerk--making a new red-herring argument every day.

Hillary is just as liberal as Obama on those issues, although lately you wouldn't know it for some reason. If she were the nominee, McGramps would hammer her on all of these and she would not stand a chance in Kentucky and West Virginia. Very socially conservative electorates don't vote for Democrats as socially liberal as Hillary Clinton anymore.
