Talkingpointsmemo: Bill, Bill, Bill...
Bill, Bill, Bill . . .

05.27.08 -- 9:40AM
By David Kurtz

Here's Bill over the weekend on the campaign stump, riffing about how no one has ever tried to run the also-ran candidates out of the Democratic race once there's a presumptive nominee, until this year, when it happened to Hillary:

And here's the NYT fact check on what really went down in 1992, for example, after Bill became the presumptive nominee.

To anyone who remembers past Democratic nomination contests, it will be no surprise that there is nothing unprecedented about the pressure on Hillary to get out of the race.

2. this coming from someone who doesn't believe in Unity?
you should replace all your posts with 'yadayadayada'.

They would still be as informative.

12. Don't you get it?
We have to be nice and "unify the party," while the Clinton supporters get to run around screaming obscene crap from the top of their lungs.

6. Bill Clinton: "Politics is a contact sport"
"And, you know, they said some pretty rough things about me, too. But you know, this is a contact sport. If you don't want to play, keep your uniform off," Clinton told a loudly cheering crowd.

It seems that when winning was still possible, it was ok to have a slugfest.. but now that they're on the loosing end of it, they want to call foul.

8. Jerry Brown Was Nominated at the 1992 Convention
Edited on Tue May-27-08 04:23 PM by Crisco
And seconded himself, even gave an acceptance speech. IIRC, there was even a vote which, of course he did not have the needed delegates to pass.

Furthermore, while the Times quotes George S. as saying it was mathematically impossible for Brown to win the nomination, it does not quote Steph or any other member of the Clinton campaign, their supporters, or superdelegates calling for Brown to drop out of the race, unlike the calls that were made for Clinton to drop out in 2008.

10. Obama camp has never called for her to get out of the race. This is being manufactured by Clintons.

11. Superdelegate Pat Leahy
Edited on Tue May-27-08 05:17 PM by Crisco
I gave Obama, himself, the benefit of the doubt until I read about how he got to the Illinois and then US senate. Seems his Democratic challengers have a way of being forced out before anyone ever has to cast a vote.

Now, there's nothing you or anyone can possibly do or say to convince me there are no emails with David Axelrod's return addy suggesting so-and-so speak on TV about, or write in their paper or blog about, how Hillary being in the race hurts Dem chances in November.
