McCain's foreign policy speech interrupted by anti-war protesters |
|
The timing was perfect too. MSNBC had just switched over to McCain's speech, billing it as a big foreign policy speech. Then some guy started chanting, "End this war!" over and over again. After about a minute, things calmed down. Then about a minute later another anti-war protester interrupted him. McCain did joke that his speech might take a lot longer than he had planned.

23. McCain's adlib jokes really fall flat |
|
Did you see him in that one Republican debate where he said something like, "I don't trade with al Qaeda, they only trade burqas. I don't travel with al Qaeda, they like 1-way tickets." He got a small chuckle from his Republican base, but in a neutral crowd he might have been booed off the stage.

27. We were in a strange mood, but we thought he was funny |
|
in fact... once he looses, at least to us, he should consider comedy
And be honest, he'll make a better comedian too! Oh and far less damage

29. ah, that says it....you were in a strange mood, that is why....(smile) |
|
the problem is, he can't deliver lines very well. He stumbles and stammers over words if you haven't caught on. Don't think he would last long as a comedian unless maybe doing Mr. Magoo, perhaps?

2. 3rd anti-war protester just interrupted McCain |
|
His security team is getting quicker running them out the room though. The disruption only lasted for about 20 seconds.

3. Well, at least he hasn't set up free speech zones! I think all the candidates have had protestors |
|
abount one thing or another. I don't care about that, and actually think it's a good thing for people to voice their objections.

5. Yeah, but not during a 'major' speech |
|
McCain's campaign was hyping up this speech big time. Kind of embarrassing to have it interrupted by protesters. It's like if protesters had interrupted Obama during his race speech in Philly.

6. He's doing a terrible job READING his speech. |
|
Also, I just noticed something. When McCain talks about actions down the road, he says, "If I am president." rather than, "WHEN I am president."
Freudian slip? He doesn't seem too confident, either.

But only in the fact that he's sounding like he's speaking to third graders rather than preschoolers as is his usual speech-readings. The cadence is once again sing-songy, and as an adult, it bugs me that he thinks I need to have his speeches put into nursury rhyme format in order to understand.

7. For the cubies out there, McCain's theme can be summed up as |
|
supporting pre-emptive military involvement for countries suspected of nuclear work. He believes that the onus is on the suspected country to prove that they are innocent, not for the IAEA to determine if they are in non-compliance. I read this as if he was President now, he would be in favor of bombing Iran.

The interruptions by protesters work to his advantage, |
|
if he gave the speech straight through without interruption, the audience would realize what stinky baitfish it really was. This way, at least they get a little floor show.

This was at 12:19ET... my TV is buffered and I rewound when I saw these threads, so thanks to everyone who gave a heads up! :)
"I will never surrender in Iraq, my friends, I will never surrender in Iraq."
Oh the applause is sickening!
More at 12:22ET! I swear, I hope he blows a gasket during one of these town halls and shows his true, angry self. You know he's trying SO hard to keep up the facade of being Grampy McSmiley when these protesters keep interrupting his big speech.

during a national debate. I think that he is sensitive about the GI bill issue. Maybe prod him there a bit.

25. He really does stumble over the words. |

I like how he emphasizes words and phrases, making them sound not very emphatic at all. Rather forced, as if he's a busted accordian, being pressed at the wrong time and letting out ragged gasps of air and dissonant sounds.
