Careful what you wish for.......
Edited on Tue May-27-08 11:34 AM by Tippy
For three decades, advocates of “centrism” have used their money to monopolize the Democratic message and leave the progressive base out in the cold, not spoken to. Since its founding in 1985, the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC) has been leading this effort.

The DLC should be referred to not as centrists, but as industrial authoritarians. Nixon had won. They blamed that landslide on Democratic Party rules changes that sought to include Americans formerly excluded from the back rooms of power. They fronted for older corporate interests - oil and gas, finance, insurance. The are really 19th-Century paternalists who would save us from ourselves by keeping us far from the WH.

I have noticed some thing recently that I didn't see before, or ignored, Anger....all DLC'ers seem really angry...Look at the Clintons, Bill and Hillary are full of rage. Harold Ford DLC Cairman, I really noticed his anger on several shows...Terry McAuliffe, he and Ford have raising their voices to the screaming point on more then one occasion lately.. they just can't believe Hillary might lose..if sho lost the DLC lose'es too.

Most of the messages delivered to voters are delivered in the course of elections, not between elections...They have little to do with the State Party and the only time they acknowledge the county party is when they need phone banking, or canvessing or gathering people for rally's The
logical plan, in which you would maximize your base vote and get just enough votes from outside the base to win. The centrists wanted to win with just enough base voters and the largest possible number of votes from outside the base.

With the centrist strategy, the base got a little mail and a few GOTV phone calls, the “swing voters” got messaged...The want any progressive of near progressives out...Progressive base voters, especially in African-American, Latino, and other disenfranchised communities, were abandoned when it came to Democrats voicing their values..This is why my Rep. Harold Ford never answered of my calls or letters. The DLC is just as vicious as the right.

As I write this I am remembering oher things that took place the year Ford ran for the Senate..In one instance we were phone banking from a list provided by the Ford campaign and were instructed to turn the list back over to them....Dummy me I wondered why they would want them back where would they go? Where would they store them? The state party had a list too but not quite like theirs, county parties used the list from the state always.

I coulld go on and on, but this is why I told everyone at our county convention, I would not support Clinton, I bent a few rules as County office holders are supose to remain nutral until the primary is over, but since DLC'ers break the rules so can I. the DLC controls what is said, how it" said and when it"s said. Ever wonder why Gore backed down in 2000, and why Kerry did the same thing in 2004.

If any one here supports the DLC with contributions you best think about what you really want in a party the DNC is all inclusive.

The rise of the progressive movement in the early years of the 21st Century challenges this monopoly. The movement is listening to progressives of all kinds and colors, and it’s driving new messages of hope between and right through election cycles

This is why we must elect Obama. If Clinton is alowed to steal this election by getting Florida and Michigan seated we are doomed If you think GW is bad just sit back and enjoy the rided Clinton will takes us on.

Again I say thank you Howard Dean you have been fighting for us sice you were elected Chairman of the DNC You really are my HERO.

1. God Forbid Anyone Ever Call Me A Centrist
I hate the term. Reminds me of mediocre. This trying so hard to imitate Repugs instead of focusing on progressive issues has gotten us to where we are today. Time to let the public know that progressive means good things for them and the country. Good post.

2. Obama is DLC
The Conservative newspaper in Chicago support his run for Senator and President. Emanual and Durbin supported he and Bean for public office but refused it for Progressive candidates.

4. Thanks for the context
We tend to forget that, and most new Dems aren't even aware of who/what the DLC is
