I'm disappointed in this group
I joined this group quite some time ago. I enjoyed turning on DU every morning/noon/night to catch up on news etc. Sadly, I can’t do that any more. What on earth has become of this group? I thought this was a united Democratic group. What’s with all the childish goings on?…picking away at Bill Clinton for instance. I didn’t see this during the last election. Is this group been taken over by the weird people of FR? Shame on you. Some of you sound worse than a group of children!

If a civil discourse between equals in a political party is suggested, yes, then you're a "Board Nanny."

NOTHING cali likes more than a divisive, nasty, name-calling, knock-down, drag-out brawl, and don't hold the name calling.

Not "one-hit" smilies.

I've been writing essays for this dump since January of 2001, when you had SUBMIT your copy to get APPROVED to sit on the front page, not relying 50 "GREAT!!! K&R"'s from fellow partisans.

I suggest you to a search on my name or look at my journal. As far as I'm concerned, someone who showed up here in July of 2004 hasn't been hear for the WAR, just the last couple of battles.

Just my opinion, but you were the one who got rude.

and he DOES write thoughtful and inspirational posts. I have been stopped in awe by some of the writing that he's done over all these years.

That fact that he supports a different candidate than I do takes nothing away from my admiration of his skills as a progressive thinker and writer.

5. It will get better
:hi:

Different Strings

Who's come to slay the dragon,
Come to watch him fall?
Making arrows out of pointed words,
Giant killers at the call?
Too much fuss and bother,
Too much contradiction and confusion.
Peel away the mystery,
Here's a clue to some real motivation.

All there really is,
The two of us,
And we both know why we've come along.
Nothing to explain,
It's a part of us
To be found within a song.

What happened to our innocence,
Did it go out of style?
Along with our naïveté,
No longer a child.
Different eyes see different things,
Different hearts beat on different strings.
But there are times
For you and me, when all such things agree.

9. People are worried there will be 4 more years
After the stolen election in 2000 - the right wing religious fanatics movement - then the 2004 election fraud - more war more embarrassment. People are scared that all this crap is just what the RNC wants. When you get scared you get angry. At least people are doing something.

This can be a place to rant and rave. Hate mongering has no place anywhere.

12. This happens every Primary season but things will get better
I recommend just staying out of GDP for a while...that usually helps. Once we have an official candidate you'll start to see more unity (eventually) but expect the random "I'm staying home on election day!" or "I'm voting Green Party!" threads from the few who are still upset over the primary results.

I know it's jarring at first, but you'll get use to it. :hi:

we've never had this problem before. The irony is, if we ever manage a ten-minute discussion about health care plans, etc., he agrees more with Hillary's version, but tells me not to worry about it if BO gets the nomination. I think he's bought into the media hate for her. It's so FRUSTRATING.

32. Ah, more focusing on DU to excuse Bill
A variation of projecting:

Focus on DUers' criticism of the Clintons to excuse Bill and Hillary's actions.

Focus on DUers' criticism because Bill and Hillary are "good Democrats."

Focus on DUers' criticism because Bill and Hillary have done nothing to deserve being called out.

Focus on DUers' criticism because Obama would be ashamed of some of his supporters.

All the while, excusing Hillary and Bill's behavior.

Hillary's delusional talking points and Bill's conspiracy theory are acceptable because DU has been "taken over by the weird people of FR."

What BS!

53. There are definitely some zealots, but...

...I'd also have to point out that it was Bill Clinton who said, "Politics is a contact sport. If you can't take a few bruises, don't suit up."

It's exactly that kind of statement and attitude that is fueling this divisiveness. And -- looking exclusively at the candidates rather than their eager followers -- it's coming almost entirely from one camp.

I agree that people are too worked up against their fellow party members. I don't want to add to that. I agree that Hillary has a right to run until it's done and that, done properly, that could be a good thing for the democrats.

Unfortunately, it's not being done properly. You can already see republicans thanking the Clintons for the ammunition they're using against Obama. John McCain has cheered her on in an SNL skit, because he knows the way the campaign is being waged, it favors republicans.

I agree that people are getting too wrapped up in their candidates on both sides, in a way that doesn't help democrats in November. But I believe it's pretty clear what side is the primary driving force behind that problem. Obama and his crew knows he needs Clinton supporters on his side and is tripping over himself trying to be fair and respectful at this point. Bill and Ms. Ferraro, on the other hand, are saying that Obama can't win in November and that he's demeaning women.

Given that context, it's somewhat understandable why people are getting upset, even though they're clearly, in some cases, overreacting.

By the way, I'm still waiting for someone to post a YouTube video of Geraldine Ferraro, as represented by Flip Wilson's Geraldine. (That would have to be done carefully, of course, given that Flip/Geraldine called his/her boyfriend "Killer.")
