SUSA IOWA: Obama 47, McCain 38 |
|
when matched up with Veeps, Edwards actually extends Obama's lead among the nationally known figures of Huckabee, Lieberman, and Romney. But dont bother paying attention to the low numbers for Sebelius etc, because she and others are relatively unknown to the majority of the public. http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=34d61abd-3c0a-441c-b337-262ffcf3489a

2. 45% Dem vs 28% Republican |
|
They had the same numbers in Ohio. Did the Republicans lose alot of support or SUSA's polling is suspect?

14. Because Democratic voter ID is that much higher. |
|
The thing is, pollsters ask what you identify as, not how you are actually registered. That's why the polls don't necessarily reflect actual voter rolls. My neighbor across the street swore she was a Democrat when she signed my Precinct Committeeperson petition form. When I looked her up on the voter file, turns out she was a registered Republican. I brought this to her attention and she said, "But I feel like a Democrat!" Needless to say, she became a Democrat in earnest once I brought her the forms.
The moral of the story is that we need to identify these people and re-register them!

5. I'm inclined to agree. |
|
By looking at these VP polls, it seems that matching Obama up with a known candidate helps greatly. Regarding Sebelious, I think Obama is going to need to spend a lot of time "re-introducing" himself to those parts of American that went Hillary. I think the last thing Obama needs to do in the GE is have to be doing this with is VP candidate as well.

8. I disagree with your argument |
|
It helps McCain to match up with a known candidate as well. McCain-Pawlenty does the worst among everybody. So I think its clear that as of right now you cant make these kind of determinations.

9. isn't that the point though? |
|
If you pair Obama with an unknown it hurts him.
Why would you NOT pay attention to these results b/c Sebelius is an unknown? That's the point. She will drag him down because she's unknown.
Sure she will have time to introduce herself to the public, but why would you want to waste valuable time doing that, especially when large segments of the electorate don't feel like they know Obama?

10. Well, if we matchup unknown VPs on both sides Obama wouldn't benefit |
|
from the advantage of having a "known" candidate. I trust these guys though, they've done pretty well, and made great decisions at every turn. We'll need to wait and see.

15. I'd love for Edwards to be VP |
|
and eventually have a better shot at being president. He too is pretty young and would be better in 8 years than he is now.
But I seriously doubt he'd want to run for VP again...
I don't see the whole hype with Sebelius. I've heard she's a good governor, but Kansas isn't electoral rich and though Obama has some roots there, it will be a tough state to win the in the general election. Also, some Hillary supporters may throw a bigger tantrum and act all insulted that "their girl" wasn't chosen.
