Mark Madden -"I Always Hoped Ted Kennedy Would Be Assassinated"
Mark Madden, a Pittsburgh-area sports radio host, has been permanently taken off the air by ESPN.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette quoted Madden as saying that he had hoped Sen. Edward Kennedy "would live long enough to be assassinated." The Massachusetts Democrat has a malignant brain tumor.

20. No he wasn't fired on the spot
Edited on Thu May-29-08 11:00 PM by RamboLiberal
His local bosses only made him apologize. Then Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sports writer Bob Smizik wrote of the incident. Still his bosses weren't going to fire him, after all he had their highest rated program and he was in afternoon drive time. They considered the matter settled. But the story reached corporate ESPN who haven't been real happy having this jerk under their banner. Took in total about 5 days to get him fired though 2 days after the incident he was off the air.

But he was losing listeners. Found this on edit:

Madden's rough style was not always popular, and he was losing listeners among his core audience of young and middle-aged men.

Among 18- to 49-year-old male listeners, Madden drew an average of 23,500 listeners in winter 2008, down 38 percent from the previous winter, according to Arbitron Inc. radio statistics. His numbers among males aged 25 to 54 dropped 37 percent during the same period.

30. Actually, it took - like - a week
Bristol fired him. The local station was going to keep him.

27. Sorry you feel that way buddy.

I've got it on DVD and can send you a copy if you like. And I mean that sincerely. In 1995 I didn't sleep when we lost to the Cowboys. I know it's ridiculous, but I was younger then.

Here's my take on the controversial calls in that game:

1. OPI on Darrell Jackson in the end zone, justified.
2. BR's rushing TD was barely a TD, and the official should be damn glad he was right because he came in about 3 seconds too late with the signal and it looked like BR sold it.
3. Low block on MH on the INT return, total garbage. TOTAL garbage. If I was a Seahawk fan I'd be ultra-pissed forever on that one. I don't think we scored on that drive, but it hurt the Seahawks on field position IIRC.
4. Holding on Sean Locklear, justified.

edit for typo

Bad calls happen...score more points!

Btw, BR admitted that he didn't score. Maybe I haven't completely recovered...

32. Ah ah ah.
Not quite. He said he wasn't sure. (Not that he would know anyway. Hell, if a thousand different camera angles can't settle the issue, then you can't really slag the ref for calling it one way or the other)

I feel you on the loss though. I've been there. At least the Seahawks have floated back up to the top again while the Steelers backed their way into the playoffs last year and got punked at home by Jax. That hurt.

36. YEP ... This guy is a flat pig ...
No lie ...

When he had a regular column in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, he ripped a post I had made on a Steelers message board, WORD FOR WORD, and used it in his name for his column ...

Just a complete pig ...

That people as worthless as he rise to the positions they can rise to, even in sports journalism, says all you need to know about the state of "journalism" today ...

9. There was a link here before about Chappaquiddick being a CIA type operation to smear EMK.
People wouldn't have believed that the CIA wasn't involved if another Kennedy brother was assassinated, so they drugged him, killed the young lady and set him up.

Knowing what I know about Gary Hart in '87-88, I am sure what happened to Teddy was similar.

10. That's Hard To Believe
Edited on Thu May-29-08 02:59 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I have read the accounts of what happened and nothing about it suggests that...There was a pattern of behavior that led up to it and followed it...

It was a long, long time ago and all the bad a person does he takes to his grave...The good he does lives on...

13. John Dean: "If Teddy knew the bear trap he was walking into at Chappaquiddick"
Edited on Thu May-29-08 06:51 PM by Hart2008
If Teddy wasn't set up, then why is Dean on tape talking about him walking into a "bear trap" in the Watergate tapes?

Was E. Howard Hunt in Chappaquiddick that weekend?

15. I Am Familiar With The Events
Edited on Thu May-29-08 08:27 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
I worked on Ted Kennedys 1980 campaign and my mom caucused for him at a straw poll for Volusia County, Florida Democrats...

That being said, his behavior that evening was less than stellar...He and a group of his friends, most married, inluding his cousin, Joey Gargan, were at a party with several secretaries including Mary Jo Kopechne, most unmarried, that worked for his martyred brother, Bobby Kennedy... They were collectively known as the Boiler Room Girls... We have Ted Kennedy's own testimony that he left the party with her, drove off the Dike Bridge , tried unsuccessfuly to save her, and didn't report the accident for ten hours...There was an inquest where he was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and had his license suspended...He also was sentenced to two months in jail...The sentence was suspended...

It's probably the most researched car accident in American history...

Of course Nixon was interested in what happened...Ted Kennedy was a potential rival in 1972...He had every interest in exploiting the event but he nor the CIA forced Ted Kennedy to take her in his car, drive it off the bridge, and not report the accident for ten hours...

The Kennedys were one of the most powerful political families in America...They would not have allowed their patriach to be framed...Look at the defense, William Kennedy Smith put up....

As I said the good a person does lives on... The bad dies with him...

Look at what happened to JFK and RFK.

41. RFK as Attorney General was prevented from investigating JFK's murder by LBJ.
The Warren Commission usurped RFK's legal power to investigate the murder.

Look also at the murder of JFK, Jr., which was also not an accident. He was going to run for that Senate seat in New York.

The Kennedys were and are well known politicians with charisma, but they are not really that powerful.

That is why so many were killed.
