Texas Democratic Party chairman endorses Obama

10:45 PM CDT on Thursday, May 29, 2008
By GROMER JEFFERS JR. / The Dallas Morning News

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie, a superdelegate, announced Thursday that he’s endorsing Barack Obama for president. Mr. Richie’s wife, Democratic National Committee member Betty Richie, is also expected to endorse the Illinois senator, state Democratic sources said.

Throughout the primary season, the couple had remained neutral in the race. The addition of the two superdelegates to the Obama camp padded his lead of 200 or so delegates over Hillary Rodham Clinton. He needs less than 45 delegates to reach the 2,026 needed for nomination.

3. EIGHTY-EIGHT PERCENT!
That's the percentage of remaining delegate Hillary needs in order to win.

But that's okay. At this point she need only pick up 23 delegates in Puerto Rico to avoid completely eliminating herself mathematically. There are 55 up for grabs, so she is expected to reach that threshold. Keep in mind, though, every super delegate that endorses Obama today increases her threshold for mathematical viability by one. If any super delegates jump ship from her, it increases her threshold by 2 delegates.

4. ADDITIONAL DELEGATES: Mr. Ritchie appoints at-large delegates too.
I think three? Or it might have been five. So that's +5 or +7 for Obama.
