World's Smallest Political Quiz.....
Edited on Sat May-31-08 12:14 AM by ruby slippers
OK, you had so much fun with the last test, here is another one. This one, though is very short...ONLY 10 QUICK QUESTIONS.

World's Smallest Political Quiz

The ORIGINAL Internet Political Quiz

Take the Quiz now and find out where you fit on the political map!

http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html TEST LINK

Here are my results.

CENTRIST

CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government

control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on

the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention

and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.

Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,

tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what

they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

And, remember, I am registered Independent but vote left, so I guess it fits....

3. Thanks! K&R! I love these! Think I've done this before, but here's me:
ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

.

LIBERAL
LIBERTARIAN

LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal

matters, but tend to support significant government control of the

economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"
to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation

of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations,

defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action

to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.

LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal

and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government;

one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion

and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual

responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes,

promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the

free market, and defend civil liberties.

The RED DOT on the Chart shows where you fit on the political map.

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 100%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 50%.
(Please note: Scores falling on the Centrist border are counted as Centrist.)

The Draft question got me, otherwise I would have been more Liberal. I think a Draft should be necessary to combat a threat like a Totalitarian government/economy taking over our country like it is now. But apparently I'm not thinking in line with this Libertarian quiz.

26. 100-20. It seems so obvious....
People should be free to make their choices and live their lives, but the role of government, or the reason to even have a government, is as a safety net for times of need. So the one valid governmental constraint on individuals should be the necessity of maintaining this safety net.

But no end of little side issues and things that don't fit into the test...

28. Those tests are fixed by the parameters

In particular I don't like "statist: big gov't" vs "Libertarian". This's a little too similar to "Capatilist" vs "Communist" for my liking - except worse. WTF is "big gov't"? Gov't is essentially a system of regulatory bodies. The world, today, doesn't have near the system of regulatory bodies that the world needs, with a global economy and global communication system irrevocably upon us. All I know of "libertarianism" is from the self-professed libertarians that I've come in contact with, and to be frank the vast majority of those have been flakey and shallow, Jubal Harshaw clones. I doubt that the quiz accurately portrays the types.

I have no freaking idea what they mean by "liberal" vs "conservative".

For example, where is my revulsion toward torture regimes in those scales? What if the torture is done by an affiliate of Blackwater? Does that matter? Is torture worse if it's contracted out? Or better? Is torture more a "liberal" or "conservative" value? Statist or Libertarian?

In my view 21st century politics doesn't fit on that kind of scale, at all. But then, to my view 21st century politics will be led by progressive ideas, not by branding. 21st century politics will be a lot more complex, because one political group will no longer be able to claim ownership of, say, religious values, or social values, or economic values. One will say, e.g., that opposition to torture is an universal value ratified at the highest level, and be damned to people who deny it.

It breaks down measurements based on how authoritarian a person is and what his economic stances are (right or left wing). Here is an example:

I actually thought I would end up in the libertarian camp, but maybe the "cut taxes and spending by 50%" question saved me. I'm not sure how reliable this thing is. If you think about it, it would be extraordinarily difficult to cut spending (let alone taxes) by 50% in light of the revenue that needs to be set aside just for entitlements, defense, and debt service. I'm not sure how "liberal" you really need to be to recognize that basic fact of life. Still, it's as fun little test.
