Does yesterday's primary make a clearer case for RICHARDSON as VEEP?? |
|
He's got the experience people seem to want; he can help Obama in Western states ~ and it would be a big plus for Latino voters.

Seriously speaking, I don't think this changes things at all. That said, there is already a solid case for considering Richardson. 10 of the swing states have Hispanic populations of 10% or more.

Richardson. He's not even in the talks in the MSM or anywhere else. He's VERY qualified, but this country is not ready for a Black man and a Hispanic on the same Presidential ticket...which sucks. Look at all the vitriol being spewed at Obama!

head of all intel units, while removing the intel offices from the DOD, except for battle planning.
In fact, I'd like to see much of the octopus that Rummie and Cheney built to be dismantled. DOD should remain solely DOD. FEMA needs a new lease on life. CIA, NSA MUST be independent, and non-military, and fuck that presidential order which required all intel agents to follow the political needs of the president.

I have no idea what kind of debater he is, however.
BTW, I agree about Puerto Ricans and other Latinos being very different people. As a long time resident of Hudson County, NJ, the most densely populated Cuban American area outside of Miami, if you mistook a Cuban for a Puerto Rican you had to be ready to defend yourself. There was no love lost between them, though I really don't know the reasons.

I think the fears of two minorities on the same ticket are overblown. Those people are already not going to vote for a black man. In fact, they may be rubbed the wrong way even more by having a black man standing next to, but in a position superior to, a white woman/man.

Obama needs a white man... not a woman, not a Latino, not gay...
A good ole white boy (and no pejorative meant by the word boy).
A straight up, married with family, guy who also has military experience or foreign policy credentials.

44. For me the hinge on Richardson is the discussion about his |
|
one or two comments in the earlier primaries and debates when he seemed to be a length behind on social issues, versus the potency of his resume in a general election and then on into governing.
If we want to fight for a larger percentage of Hispanic voters, while they do not vote as a monolithic block, they would seem to be more receptive to a man with common heritage who speaks their language, literally. Especially after 8 years of a president who could not even speak his own language, let alone Spanish.
Puerto Rico, very possibly, but certainly Richardson brings New Mexico back to blue, and helps us considerably in Colorado, Nevada, possibly Florida, Arizona, and California (as others have pointed out in this thread).
We face a global energy emergency; Richardson knows energy well.
We seem to be involved in repeated and frequent hostage situations; Richardson is an adept at diplomacy.
Not least, he's an experienced governor of a state West of the Mississippi in a year when we convene in Denver. A major plus.
He brings very significant achievement in more than one area.

47. I love Richardson, but he won't be VP. For a while, I've been hoping that Obama does this.... |
|
That he names certain people who will be on his cabinet and other posts - Richardson, Clinton, Edwards... That will help him shore up the experience card and it will bring all the respective named people's supporters to him.
I know it won't happen for a bunch of reasons. Not the least of which is that no one wants to tie themselves to a candidate too much in case he loses. But I think it could work.
