I'm switching my support to Hillary |
|
For the next 24 hours.
I can't let this historic candidacy go down without a nod of support to the first woman candidate to make it to the end of the primaries.
Say what you will, She. Never. Gave. Up. She refused to be browbeaten out of the race, and she ends her run with her head high.
So for the next 24 hours, I'm yours, Hillary! You GO, GIRL!!

1. If Hillary had run in 2000 instead of Al Gore, she would still be President today... |
|
... and she'd also have custody of Jenna.

I like that! Jenna always struck me as the one that was most likely to rebel... she probably would have ASKED Hillary to take custody.
I'm serious, at least to a point. I have admired Hillary for YEARS. I feel bad that when it came down to brass tacks, I just couldn't support her as our nominee this time. There are many reasons, and I won't go into them.
But as a temporary supporter, let me say she has spent most of her whole adult life fighting for causes I believe in. Yes, she often did so on borrowed power, but I can point to lots of more powerful women who haven't done half as much.
GO Hillary!

There's no point borrowing trouble. If she doesn't concede/suspend/acknowledge that her run is over by the end of the week, I'll... well, first I'll be surprised, but after that I'm heading to the garage to get my pitchfork.

8. What do you mean "advocacy thread" |
|
Advocating Hillary as a person and a democrat and one strong, determined woman, or advocating that she take her fight to the convention?

15. I liked the fact that she brought a completely different |
|
flavor to the entire process; something besides white men in monkey suits with tough-guy facades.
Oh, and I like the way she completely obliterated the perception that she was just a shill for her husband, a mere parrot for the master. In fact, in some circles, she's now considered more politically savvy than he.
And now that everybody knows that the chicks can play hardball as well as the guys, they're all gonna start signing up.

35. Of course, I always thought Hillary was the smart one |
|
Bill was the "face" - he had the charisma, and the political skills. She was like the researcher in the back room -- not so much of a "people person" but absolutely necessary to his success.
And, anybody who was as big a fan of Buffy and Xena: Warrior Princess as I was knows that chicks can fight!
Ultimately, I think she had the wrong fighting style for this election, though. If Hillary is a brawler, Obama was a jujitsu guy, and the brawler doesn't really know how to deal with that.
**I suppose, backing off from my Hillary support for a minute, that was what eventually decided me to support Obama for the nomination. Republicans are brawlers too, and they don't know how to fight jujitsu guy any better than Hillary did. (I hope.)**
Ok, back to Hillary support...
GO HILLARY!

- where exactly do you want her to go?
I don't think she can come out of this with her head held high. She was given a golden opportunity, the nomination of a silver plate and she blew it... that's sad.

What was most exciting to me as a fifty-something woman, was that because of her advantages, she had to be taken seriously. Any other woman would have been treated as a joke and patted on the head and told to run along now after a couple of primaries. She made a lot of mistakes, and, in the end her failure to win the nomination rests on her shoulders... but the times, the sexism from the media, the historic nature of her opponent's candidacy... a lot of things contributed. It's not like she was blown out of the water, you know. She vanquished, what, five other candidates?
And I STILL think she has better policy chops than Obama. But that alone wasn't enough for the times.
There's the old question, do the times make the man (woman) or does the man (woman) make the times?
It's still an open question, in general, but in THIS time, she wasn't the one.
Meanwhile, GO HILLARY!
