Howard Dean, Wm Bennett to debate "before the debate" Sept. 30
This should be a fun debate, and then Kerry and Bush later in the evening.

SNIP..."Howard Dean, William Bennett Set To Square-Off On Opposing Viewpoints At ACEC's 'The Maine Event'

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 2004--Republican William Bennett and Democrat Howard Dean will debate opposing political ideologies and key election issues on Thursday, September 30, in Portland, Maine, as part of the upcoming Fall Conference of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC).

The unique debate, titled "The Maine Event," begins at 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn By the Bay and pits together two of the nation's most powerful political voices in a rare no-holds barred debate on contrasting party philosophy, and their views of what issues will impact who America chooses as President.

The debate will precede the nation's first Presidential election debate between President George W. Bush and challenger Senator John Kerry, scheduled for later that evening...."

Was it 8 million Bennett gambled away?

Politics is a gamble, really. Should be interesting.

2. Dean needs to be very aware of Bennett's method - he is an
expert at stance - he pretends to be superior and looks down and puts down everyone - everyone. He will pretend to take the moral high ground. Every three dimensional subject and priority will be dismissed with a snear of superiority and incredible negative criticism of everything and anything that isn't right wing.

Dean needs to be his optimistic and confident self. I would be great if he could draw out the hypocrisy that there is always an abundance of coming of off repugs.

When you listen - remember he was the operative in the room with the Bushes on the night they pre-stole the election - he came on camera after Gore had been declared the winner and said wait, that isn't so. Then the Bush cousin employed by Fox declared Bush won. Bennett was on camera all through the night speaking for the Bushes with Sr and Barbara present as well. He went from being Mr Morality to an up-front Bush operative on that night. Don't ask me why the 'show' he helped put on doesn't leave my memory.

3. A novel twist to the speaker's tour
Just put Dean on the speaker's list with Cokie....
I'd pay to hear him again.

8. Noam Chomsky destroyed Bennett in a debate on CNN
on Paula Zahn's show of all places. The chickenhawk Bennett hawking his book "Why we (sic) fight"

But it wasn't easy. Chomsky had to fight:

http://www.counterpunch.org/chomsky0530.html

CHOMSKY: You should be ashamed for lying about what is in
the book, because nothing is said -- in fact, the quote was
just given, nothing can justify the terrorist attacks of
September 11. You just heard the quote, if you want to
falsify it, that's your business.

BENNETT: No -- well, I...

CHOMSKY: Just a minute -- did I interrupt you? Did I
interrupt you?

<snip>

CHOMSKY: I don't. I choose to live in what I think is the
greatest country in the world, which is committing
horrendous terrorist acts and should stop.

BENNETT: I think you should say greatest -- I think you
should say greatest a little more often.

CHOMSKY: If you want to be a hypocrite...

(CROSSTALK)

BENNETT: I think you should acknowledge its virtues a little
more often, Mr. Chomsky.

CHOMSKY: And you should acknowledge its crimes.

BENNETT: I do. Read my book. You will see it.

CHOMSKY: No, you never do. No, sorry. And if you want to...

CHOMSKY: If you want to know what I say, do not listen to
Mr. Bennett's falsifications of which I just gave an
example.

9. May be part of a series. Not sure. One is on the 18th, I hear.
Apparently this is the first of a number of debates? Someone over at Kos said they're attending a Dean/Bennett debate on Sept. 18 at Villanova. Anyone else shed some light on this?
