NPR: As delusional as Hillary |
|
Just listened to the Morning Edition political roundup and had to laugh at the desperation of the shillbot host still clinging to the hope that Obama will "lose," like by saying "IF this nomination has been decided..." and calling Obama the "possible presumptive nominee" and searching for some sign, any sign that Obama is willing to put Goneril on his ticket.
Dream on, shillbot!

3. Look, they've been lying daily about this race since January. |
|
They've interviewed Hillary campaign workers pretending they're random supporters, they've misrepresented the delegate math, they've flogged Hillary's talking points religiously, and when they enter cloud cuckoo land they deserve to be laughed at.

16. I agree - and one of the worst things is that the entire media |
|
started to compute the total popular vote and to give it a prominence that was astonishing. Why? After February 5th, the Clinton's knew they likely would loss the pledged delegate count. They slowly pushed two concepts - that if the pledged delegates count was close - never specified completely, but one number used a lot was within 50, the difference wouldn't matter. The other was this popular vote. Later they added in an estimator that computed the "electoral college count" for the states won.
The fact is that she lost and lost in a very nasty race where she started with incredible advantages. Yesterday, McCain used the Clinton talking points to call Obama's win less than legitimate, followed by HRC not congratulating Obama on getting the delegates needed. This with the chorus of pundits arguing that he can't win without her base. Think about that has anyone ever made that argument before?
Look at 1992, where Clinton won, but Tsongus took most of the NE. The NE is a major part of the Democratic base and Tsongus had been the front runner. There the media clearly favored Clinton. He was the comeback kid and the big story when he came in second. Were there calls to put Tsongus or another New Englander on the ticket? After all, we could lose MA, NH, RI, Ct etc if not. I don't remember it - not even when a second Southern Baptist from an adjacent state, who 4 years before had been the first DLC endorsed candidate was chosen. I recall no complaints - this was a pick of a VP from the same wing of the party as the President. It worked very well as Gore was comfortable echoing Clinton's positions.
I hope Obama takes his time and asks for the ticket that he would be most comfortable with. Bill Clinton often argued that is the first important decision that a potential President makes - and he should fight to get someone who would be comfortable with his message.

Clinton? Ungracious in competition ('it WILL be me'; 'I'm in it for the long run...it's not a very long run, it'll be over February fifth', 'I have a lifetime of experience that I bring to the table, John McCain has a lifetime of experience, and Barack Obama has a speech he made in 2002'), ungracious in defeat (she gave what sounded for all the world like a fucking VICTORY SPEECH last night).
If there's hate, she's earned it, bought and paid for with her own behaviour.

I listened to their coverage last night during the speeches and it didn't come off that way at all. I think maybe you're projecting a bit.

4. Morning Edition is a different show. |
|
It's the morning news show and the ding-dong "hosts" are bigtime shillbots. I thought the election coverage last night was pretty good too.

12. This morning's coverage on "Morning Edition" was awful. |
|
They gave the Republican talking head about three times the airtime as the Democratic talking head and then gave the Republican the last word so he sould tell us how badly we'll lose the General Election.
They also gave Hillary far more air time, better acoustics, and far more cheering from the crowd than they gave Obama. (Of course the acoustics were understandable; Hillary was probably speaking in a far smaller venue to a far smaller crowd. Still, they could have taken their feed from Obama's microphone instead from some mike halfway down the audience.)
NPR, like the rest of the media, knows that this nomination story has been a big draw and they don't want to get off the easy gravy train yet, so they're trying to string things along. But it's over. Obama has won, Hillary has lost, and any actual reportage of the situation would acknowledge that fact.

23. I had a spat with an old friend of mine over this last night.... |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 12:05 PM by PassingFair
he was going on and ON about the "popular vote" and how it de legitimizes Obama's win...
I disputed the "popular vote" scheme, but he was adamant. I told him that he needed to listen to more unbiased sources, and he said (and I quote)
"Less biased than NPR?"
He seems to think NPR is even SLIGHTLY as creditable a source as they were 9 years ago.
I haven't been able to believe anything on NPR since Michael Powell came to the FCC, and the regular reporters were sent packing.
My friend is an Obama supporter, and he doesn't use the "internets".
He is buying the baloney they are pushing.

7. Not disputing you, but Obama IS the presumptive nominee until the convention |
|
The nominee is not officially decided until the convention. Just like McSame is the presumptive republic nominee until the repub convention. That doesn't put his nomination in question, it is the correct terminology.

one of the resident conservatives announced that Obama had made history yesterday--and was quite respectful, too, I might add (I think she may vote for him--in our off topic discussions she has mentioned her disillusionment with Bush).

There are still a bunch of uncommitted superdelegates, almost all of whom will jump on the Obama-train. I'd guess there will be significant Hillary defections as well. Everyone knows it's over, and they'll get in line.

17. I wonder if the NPR you get is different than the one I get. |
|
Yesterday, NPR's discussions were completely based on the assumption that Obama was the nominee. The programs in question include Day to Day, Fresh Air, and All Things Considered.
Who is this "shillbot"? Did her opinion dominate the entire two hours of Morning Edition?
And, for the record, Obama is not the nominee any more that McCain is the nominee. The functional word is "presumptive", and for good reason.
I'll never understand the NPR despisers -- they keep listening. Masochism?

18. I figured it out awhile ago... |
|
The certainly don't donate to support NPR or their local NPR station, and they figure that continuing to listen without donating is a way of 'putting it to them'. That's the most logical explanation I can come up with (which should make the point adequately).

22. You're probably correct. |
|
NPR has annoyed me on occasion with their analyses, but they remain the best thing going.
I guess that some folks want to believe that NPR is truly the Voice of Liberal America (as suggested by Limbaugh, Gingrich et al.). They find it infuriating when NPR actually interviews Republicans without snorting and giggling or will read Pentagon press releases without scathing criticism.
I have no fear of a broad spectrum of news, and I actually demand it. Clearly, others do not.

there are couple of NPR hosts that you can almost hear the support in their voice. Robert siegel was one that comes to mind.
