Clinton is clearly making a VP push through her surrogates, according to the media. But does she really want it, or does she simply want to be offered it so she can reject it and further hinder Obama's chances in November? It's obvious she wants to be President. So would the Clintons really play second fiddle to Obama? I doubt it. They want an out. They want a dignified exit and an acknowledgment of their own power and influence, but they don't want to play second fiddle to Obama. Maybe they want him to lose so they can run again, but I doubt it. I think they are at this point angling not for a VP slot but for their own spot within the party's hearts and minds.
Obama should really offer her something, but the longer she refuses to concede the nomination she has evidently lost and the longer she goes without endorsing him the more unlikely this becomes. Unable to go to Denver, the Clintons are left with few choices but to begin to define their legacy. I think if Obama came out and said she had ran a close campaign and acknowledged that he needs her supporters directly, it would go a long way towards healing that divide. Clinton's supporters aren't delusional, they realize she has lost. The only question is whether they are supporting Obama in November or not. Right now, both sides and the egos involved are making that look less likely by the day.
What do the Clintons want? They want a way out of the race without losing face.

2. Sorry, but they lost face along time ago with some of the shit that they heaped on Obama... |
|
If they want to try and redeem some of that face back again, then they better back Obama and begin to campaign for him so that he can beat Gramps in November.

Did you see McCain speak yesterday? You think theres a dem out there thats going to vote for that crap over obama cause they are pissed off over Clinton's loss?
8 months, or whatever hillary leaves us after she finally does the right thing,of contrasting McCain against Obama and there will be few republicans even voting for McCain forget about Dem's.
As far as clinton wanting to get out without losing face she continues to pass up opportunity after opportunity to do so. At this point I don't think there is a way for her to get out without losing face her last real shot at that was last night.

4. There are McCain Democrats |
|
I saw a car just this morning with a John McCain bumper sticker put diagonally over a Hillary Clinton 2008 bumper sticker. So yes, they will not vote for Obama if she does not concede/endorse Obama. Right now, neither looks particularly likely.

Ol limpballs operation chaos is a failed ratings grab and now they have the shitheads trying to pretend to be former Dems that will now support McCain.
There is a long time to go between now and November. Clintons supporters have quite a while to cool down and listen to the crap that McCain is going to be spouting at them. I don't think any serious Democrat will cross over and vote for Bushes third term and I think that very few of them will stay at home and deny their vote to Obama.
If Clinton gets her ass in gear and starts supporting the Democratic nominee she can still play a serious role in this campaign and in a future Obama administration. I don't know if she will be the VP nominee but she can be a serious force in the future.
Holding out and hanging to a failed bid for the White House will do nothing for her future in politics. I'm hoping that when she and her advisors cool down they will come to that same conclusion. I hope it happens sooner rather than later but it doesn't have to happen today, though it would be damned nice if it did.
On edit: Welcome to DU, it should be more fun around here now.

11. I thought Obama DID acknowledge |
|
that he needed her in his speech. He spoke about her helping him get universal health care. That most likely was an offer and it was an offer to do something that she claims was one of her main goals as president. He's offering her a rose and she's offering him thorns.

13. Looking at the map, uh, we passed Dignified Exit many, many miles back there on the interstate. |
|
Hillary had lost by the time Wisconsin's polls closed. That was, oh let me see now, ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE DAYS AGO. Yes, I said one hundred. Pennsylvania was billed as Hillary Clinton's absolute last chance for a game changing victory which might make a comeback remotely possible--she failed there too. She went on to fail to acknowledge the rejection from the voters as well as the need to unify against the already selected Republican nominee. And that was over FORTY days ago.
Just forget all those notions of "dignified exit" and "party unity": these Clinton people don't even know what you're talking about.
