Rendell: Obama would have to be an “enormously big person” to pick Hillary, she would upstage him.
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell – one of Hillary Clinton’s strongest supporters – today warned her: “There’s no bargaining. You don’t bargain with the Presidential nominee. Even if you’re Hillary Clinton and you have 18 million votes, you don’t bargain.”

In an exclusive interview with NY1 Political Anchor Dominic Carter, Rendell added that Obama would have to be an “enormously big person” to pick Clinton as his running mate and that Clinton sometimes “couldn’t help but upstage” Obama on a joint ticket.

Rendell also said former President Bill Clinton could greatly complicate things if his wife was the Vice Presidential nominee.

“The Obama campaign would have to make strict rules, you know, about what President Clinton could and could not do during the campaign… For example, the Obama campaign would have to control his schedule; where he would go into, what states,” Rendell tells Carter.

“You know, normally politicians don’t want to be outshone. Well you know you’ve got Bill Clinton lurking in the background. But Hillary Clinton, a very charismatic figure for many Americans — generally a lot of politicians don’t like to put somebody like that on the ticket. You know rule one for the vice president is make sure you never upstage the president, right? It’s rule one. You know, Hillary Clinton in some ways couldn’t help but upstage, even if she was trying not to”

might be a required stipulation if the offer was made

6. Upstage? No. She and Bill would drag Obama down.
Their negatives would completely neutralize his campaign and the message of change that has worked so well for him. Shove it up your ass Rendell.

10. Finally, Rendell is making some sense.
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 01:52 PM by Cant trust em
My biggest worry about the "dream ticket" is that the Clintons wouldn't understand that they are now officially number 2 to Obama. They don't get the steer the ship anymore.

I don't trust him and this post just confirmed my feelings were correct.

Let's move on.

13. cnn.com put him on the short list.
There's no way in hell that he can be on the ticket. I'd support Hillary on the ticket before I'd support this chump.

16. I have an opinion too, even though I'm not a governer
My opinion is that Mr. Rendell appears to be overthinking this. If 18 million voters would like to see Hill as V.P. then I think that's fine.

19. Yup. Ironically, if she hadn't fought so hard to stay in the race, she could've been VP
If she wanted to be veep at all, she needed to show that she respects Obama and is a team player.

She didn't and she isn't.

So now she's painted herself into a corner. Even her own supporters realize that Hillary as VP would be too much of a distraction and that she does not possess the willingness to make the sacrifices required to be on the ticket.

22. Of course she would TRY to upstage him
She's been trying to upstage him for the past year without much success.

But I think he's a bit smarter than to let her do that.

Hillary's a bit of a whiner and charismatic is one adjective I'd never apply to her - she's basically an introverted bookworm trying to be a glad hander like Bill. She might be better off as some sort of policy analyst in the WH - but she just ain't cut out for any kind of executive or leadership role.

32. Make that "enormously stupid person."
Regardless of my feelings towards Hillary, none of which are good, the fact remains that if you bring Hillary aboard, you get Bill as well. As grateful as I am to him for his administration, he was a campaigning disaster this time around.

Also, let's not forget how selfish Hillary is. She'd upstage him every chance she got.

Besides, if you're looking for change and unity, the last thing you need is the same old crap and a polarizing figure as your VP.
