Party insider. eced experience....and definitely they kind of attack dog you want in the number two position for the campaign.

What are the objections?

I like Richardson as VP but not as a candidate. I like Biiden but he is a senator.

Sam Nunn or Bob Graham might make sense but they are old.

Ted Strickland would be valuable in one state only.

I REALLY like Warner but it ain't gonna happen.

Dean Might be a really good fit and ticket Balancer.

2. I think Obama likes Dean where he is
as head of the DNC, Dean did an excellent job of making sure everyone played fair during the primaries and Obama, the new head of the Democratic Party has said that the DNC will no longer take contributions from Lobbyists. I think he wants Dean there to enforce his reforms of the party.

9. Yeah, and I think Obama is just getting warmed up
So far he's kicked the lobbyists out of the DNC offices and apparently kicked Libermans ass (just a little though) and he's only been the "head of the party" for 2 days.

3. I like Dean... but I don't think this would help Obama
Dean was my candidate in 04 but I knew early on that his lack of media savvy was going to cost him the nomination.
I'm not quite sure how he did it but he pissed off enough press to become the media's whipping boy.
I would be surprised if that wasn't revived were he to join Obama's ticket.

11. I supported Dean in 04 with vigor,
and I agree. I also think Dean is doing a great job as our DNC chair.

5. So long as he is in office as DNC head, he can't run for office
He has to quit first, but I thought he made a pledge he would not try to run for presidential office while he was DNC chair.

When I heard today's announcement on campaign finance, I figured Dean and Obama had a wonderful conversation about turning the party inside out.

6. Heh:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6249030&mesg_id=6284530

Downsides:
The "scream".
Dean already painted as "too liberal".
Hillary's team still pissed at Dean over the DNC delegate (MI/FL) compromises.

7. Obama explicitly removed Dean from consideration when he kept him as DNC chair.
Why re-appoint the guy if you're going to make him your VP choice?

10. Unfortunately,
An Obama/Sebelius ticket still loses Kansas by quite a bit.

But - I think an Obama/Richardson ticket could take New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Florida, make California almost unanimous and make Arizona tight

Hillary supporters know him better as Judas now, unfortunately.

16. If Hillary is there and smiling when they announce it
If she goes out an campaigns with him, it won't matter (except to the ones who won't vote for Obama anyway - regardless of who he picks)

18. Wow, you're right. That could cost us DOZENS of votes.
I think you're overestimating the crazy vindictiveness of Hillary supporters. Anyone who would be pissed about Richardson won't be voting for Obama under any circumstances.

I'm not as optimistic as you are though. You really think that Hillary is going to sit idly by while Richardson becomes the V.P.?

15. Obama will clearly choose someone that he personally gets along with well.
and who shares his vision of governing. Sebelius and Richardson fit that bill the most.

22. No, that was just the artifically hyped version.
The words that "tanked" his campaign were "I will break up the Corporate Media"

Those are the NEW "Seven Words You Can't Say On Television" :grr:

21. I would love an Obama/Dean ticket
But since it was just announced today that the Good Doctor will be sticking around as DNC chairman, it would seem highly unlikely.
