Poll question: Binary AWOL Ad Poll
The Move On.Org ad basically said AWOL was a coward who used his daddy's connections to get into the National Guard and then didn't bother to show up...

The ad got the message out and the damage was done.

Was it a shrewd political move for Kerry to disassociate himself from the ad while reaping the benefits from AWOL's tarnished image

2. Kerry would look like a hypcrite if he didn't condemn the ads
and Kerry is not running a smear campaign. He's running on the issues.

5. With this tactic, Kerry can't run the risk of denigrating the service
of National Guardsmen, but the point still gets made.

7. Now that Kerry has dissed it,
the media are gonna run that ad again and again and again and...
Just like the smear boat ad, and all for free, while talking about it, etc. I think it was a double-whammy move coordinated with MoveOn, and with no downside for Kerry. the AWOL message gets out, Kerry is Mr. Clean for having disavowed it, & Bush looks like shit for refusing do disavow the Smearboat Sailors.

8. Kerry is standing on high ground and doesn't want to lose it
Kerry should be above all this. He is running on a positive platform of good things to come. He is going to be as much like Clinton in this way as he possibly can be. Leave the attacks and smears to "others" and say it isn't what he's about. Very Smart Fella and will be a stark contrast to what we have suffered these last four years of torment.
