Interesting..Chelsea Clinton to speak at TX Dem Convention
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 08:14 PM by rainbow4321
Hmmmm...will be interesting to what she has to say. Perhaps picking apart her speech would give us an idea of what HRC will actually say tomorrow.
Wow, this may also be our first chance of seeing a Clinton at a public gathering showing support for Obama.

Chelsea Clinton has arrived at the Texas Democratic Party convention, the party is letting reporters know. Word spread as state Sen. Kirk Watson, the convention’s temporary chair, roused delegates at the Austin Convention Center.

SD caucuses are still in swing, as TDP staff begin preparations for the main events tonight. Rick Noriega will be speaking at 6:30pm, Chelsea Clinton around 7:00pm, and Governor Kaine around 8:00pm.

On edit:

http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/politics/index.html

Chelsea Clinton said she came to Texas on behalf of her mother to offer two messages:

“My mother wants to make it very clear that we are all going to unite our party and take back the White House in November,” Clinton said, adding that Hillary Clinton would offer her support tomorrow for Sen. Barack Obama at a speech in Washington, D.C.

The other missive was a “a big Texas-sized thank you to everyone,” she said.

40. Chelsea: "I typically speak to smaller crowds"
Edited on Sat Jun-07-08 08:42 AM by rainbow4321
Well, Chelsea..if your last name was Obama instead of Clinton, a crowd of 10,000 WOULD be a "smaller crowd"

http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2008/06/chelsea_oh_gosh.html

Chelsea appeared impressed when she stepped before more than 10,000 Texas Democrats.

"Oh gosh," she repeated three times.

"Thank you," she repeated over and over.

"Oh, wow!"

"I typically speak to smaller crowds," she said, laughing. "You give new meaning (to the saying that) you do things bigger in Texas."

Of course you do. The army you imagined has all but deserted Mrs. Footnote to go with The Better Idea. Maybe you should skip Mrs. Footnote's speech tomorrow. Better to read about it. You won't have to see her lips making those awful words.

Maybe it's time for a break?

Well, a housecat with internet access - researching late dinner spots.

We love Mothers, but it closes at 10.
Was thinking Bouldincreek, but it closes at midnight.

But hey, on S Lamar, there is Kerbey lane cafe, 24 hrs. It will be a well deserved end to a long day - so she'll be fired up for tomorrow....

Just in case you were unaware, their menu looks awesome --

30. Hey, Blogslut! Good suggestion, it's on the short list.
i try to take advantage of the lefty hippie culture when down here in the big A, from the DFW sprawl.
Bouldin creek and kerbey both fit that mold, and they're pretty in sync with me..
Plus, more vegetarian choices - and kerbey's desserts will please the Ms to no end...

On the other hand, a veggie reuben sounds really good right now. Hope I can MAKE it to midnight - this research is KILLING me.;)

Not sure of Katz' politics -
They do have a giuliani's suggestions section in their menu. WTF?
I do have a suggestion for rudy...

19. Well, if I had to guess
I imagine the speech had to be, uh, altered, shall we say?? Given the national Dems telling HRC to drop out before this weekend...kinda messed up her TX appearance (see below)

Here is a link from an article dated June 1st that has a HRC TX camp member saying:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5813209.html

Texas Clinton Chairman Garry Mauro said Clinton told him she will speak to the convention on Friday.
-----------------

Perhaps she was going to use our convention to keep up the charade that she still had a snowball chance in hell of still winning. Then Tuesday happened. Then the national level Dems lowered the boom on her Wednesday.
If she had backed out of the TX convention promised appearance it looks bad (yeah, right, like she cares about looking bad)...so she sends her surrogate, instead.

I'm just glad that they gave her a Friday deadline. Tired of her "using" and abusing Texas over the last several months.

that Obama would defend Israel.

She is referring to him as the next prez.

What's she supposed to do?

20. I'm in Austin. Just heard it. Please read and answer my question if ya can
i'm an Obama delegate from Lubbock county. It was a real surprise to everyone there. A good speech, but this is what stood out to me. I've been in somewhat of a news vaccuum since I've been here at the convention for a couple of days, but last I heard, there was no real outright mention of concession, support for future president Obama, etc.

Her speech was right up front. She said, paraphrasing, "you all know, my mom is going to concede this race tomorrow morning, and she is going to endorse Obama, and will fight for him, etc..."

So here's my question. Have they said where she's going to make the concession speech? The rumor on the floor of the convention is that they are both going to appear here in Austin tomorrow. I know, wishful thinking, but it kind of makes sense. It's a huge crowd, it's supporters from both sides, the convention reconvenes at 11am our time, which fits in with what I'm hearing about TV coverage, and then when Chelsea showed, it just makes me think it even more. Why would she be here? Unless it's where she's meeting mom for a big day.

I've read that he's supposed to golf, have a date, etc. tomorrow. So does anyone have anymore info?

I'm countin on my DU friends to either confirm or quell these rumors! :-)

How far did you get in your SD caucus? we finished all of our committee elections and we just have to do SDEC, elector, and then delegates. I think we're still going to be another two hours in caucus. Ugh.

26. Wow, that really sucks...
we were lucky. We got thru it all, bc SD 28 is mainly just Lubbock and San Angelo, and then a lot of small counties/towns in between. As a result, we only had 3 or 4 people running on each thing. On the delegates to national, we had 5 running. I have a friend from Travis county--they have 250 running. They're gonna be there all night! You may be in the same boat, huh.

27. Her "suspension" speech is in DC tomorrow
That isn't a slam -- she has to "suspend" to wrap up financials.

The NY Congressional delegation (led by Charlie Rangel) and a group of Senators told her on a conference call Thursday to end it THIS WEEK.

Apparently they were appalled by her lack of concession on Tuesday and introduction in the sub-sub-basement (with no TVs and no wifi/cell access) as "the next President of the US" and called her hand.
