Hillary's suspension and endorsement - my own thoughts |
|
CAUTION!! Yes, she gave a good speech today but she is still Hillary and we need to wait and see what happens next. This speech was well written -- but not by her as many have reported there were a few helping put it together. She delivered it well, but remember that her NY group of politicians (Rangel and others) FORCED her to do this. She HAD to come through for their benefit. She definitely left all doors open for herself and intends to have herself on the list come time for Convention, to have her delegates there for roll call. Now is the time to wait and see how it goes from here. Like Chuck Todd said -- this is only Step 1.
Unless something unforeseen happens I guess it will be after the convention before I will relax about her - unless she's put on the ticket. If that happens, lord help Obama!!! I'll bestow my praises to her when I think she deserves them. All through the campaign she loved to point out that Obama's speeches were just words; but his words needed to be backed by actions.. Well, that holds true for Hillary, as well. Today was her own political lifeline to survival.

3. Caution is called for. This speech was necessary, its contents no surprise but it doesn't |

automatically wipe out the last few months. And let's see if this is more a play for the VP slot and if she follows up her words with actions if she doesn't get it.

6. Agreed. I understand that many are riding the wave of a cathartic speech |

BUT it is a first step and even though the MSM is pushing "water under the bridge", there are still facts about the aftermath of the campaign that remain.
It was a good speech, but as you say, had there been no intevention on the part of Hillary's colleagues, where might we be today?
It's still incumbent on Hillary to convey her continued support for Obama regardless of his VP choice. I suspect that a fair amount of her supporters have shifted their expectation to having her in the #2 spot and the MSM is doing everything they can to solidify that expectation.
While I respect Obama's VP vetting process, I sure wish he'd make a decision sooner rather than later to quiet the speculation and move this question out of the news cycle so the focus can be directed entirely toward the GE.

Maybe it is just me trying to shake off her and BC's actions and comments (public and secretly-recorded-but-made-public) from recent months but I remain ***cautiously*** optimistic. One of those trust but verify feelings. The parts of the speech where she endorsed Obama just seemed, well, somewhat forced and lacking genuine looking happy/supportive/"I believe what I am saying" facial expressions/gestures. Time will tell..I will feel better after the convention--unless he picks her as VP (which, IMHO, goes against his promise for change) then the feeling may go on for a while after that.
She'll probably end up as Sec. of Health..only saying that cuz her last couple post-Tuesday speeches seem to be including alot of health reform comments.
We will see if she is actually out making public appearances at rallies for him between now and November. Just IMO, people don't want her out there anymore and there are alot more respected pols he could send than her..but her non-appearances will speak volumes more than her speech today. If I had to guess we will hear from her people "she has alot of work back in NY that she needs to catch up on from the last 16 months" and she will quietly just kinda fade into the background.
