Warning: link to McCain's site. But this is worth talking about.

Here's a link to McCain's strategist giving a powerpoint type outline of the most optimistic kind.
It doesn't start off good. Statements like "political environment, worst, in history" begin it. And that's the best it gets. It goes on to define the positive element in McCain's campaign as being a difference between worst expectations based on current polling and the ability of McCain to sustain a positive image in face of that. This gives insight into the best that the Republican campaign strategy can hopes to get, this election cycle - because McCain is currently at the height of his popularity.

1. They are going to take a pass on this election & wait for a better
chance in 4 years. They have been saying this since January.

2. OK. I haven't been listening that closely.

I just know that the Republicans are totally fractured. And the desperation to create a reasonably personable candidate has McCain in stitches. I mean, tho' McCain goes along with it, he clearly doesn't know what's happening, or what he's saying.

4. As he has said, he really is going to run a gentleman like campaign,
They know that they have no chance of winning this time, so why not keep it light.
