Could NEVADA be the state? |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 03:39 PM by newsguyatl
new poll has the state statistically tied and now moveon's targeting it today and tomorrow with this new ad:
VO: It's coming to Nevada. Radioactive waste headed for Yucca Mountain. Why? Because in 2000, George Bush misled Nevada. That's right. After promising Governor Guinn he'd veto legislation making Yucca Mountain a nuclear dump, George Bush personally approved the disposal of radioactive waste in Nevada. John Kerry's fighting to stop Yucca Mountain. MoveOn.org Voter Fund is responsible for the content of this advertising.
it's only five electoral votes, but hey, combined with a win in wv, that's 10 more electoral votes for kerry that bush won last time. and they're both looking like real possibilites right about now. if he maintains gore states, he'd only need this to win.
and that's not even counting ohio and florida that could very well go blue in november.

9. A semi-ethical question.. |
|
Are there liberal Californians who would be willing to re-locate to Nevada for a few months, just for the election? It may not be very nice ethically, but it'd be perfectly legal..

13. Why does everybody assume that it will come down to just a couple of EVs? |
|
Most elections don't work that way. 2000 was a rarity. Either way it will likely be won by closer to sixty electoral votes or more than five or six.

17. Look it is rare for an election to come down to one state. Just because it |
|
happened last time doesn't mean that it will this time and we should focus on a lot more than just a couple states here and there. That was Gore's mistake. He wrote off many more states than he should have and it cost him the race. We should be competing for well over 300 electoral votes and as high as 370ish so that we increase our margin for error.

15. I live in Douglas County Nevada |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 05:45 PM by Nashyra
We have worked our butts off and Nevada now has more registered Dems than Repukes by 747. I am going to a moveon meeting tommorrow in Reno, I have people staying in my home to work in Carson City to canvass, I am a precint cpt, I am running for public office as a dem in a non partisan race. I am an excutive member of our Douglas County Womens group, I have had 4 house parties, starting with Clark and I am probably not as busy as other members of my womens group or the Douglas County Democratic Central Committee. I'm up at 6:30 out the door by 8:30 9:00 and get home about 10:00 at night 4 nights a week. Thank God I could afford to take a leave from my job. Most of the other people I know are doing as much and working a regular job. OK I am a cheerleading advisor at the high school, but that is fun even though it is quote unquote supposed to be a job. The 15 young ladies that I am responsible for are a great group og girls.
This post is to let you know we are working hard to deliver Nevada to Kerry and we are working hard. Anyone interested in coming to help out in Nevada and wish to visit and help in Lake Tahoe let me know.

You are very special to do this. I hope many join you working for our great Kerry/Edwards ticket. BTW, had a cheerleader of my own. Most are very special girls. They work harder than anyone suspects. So do their mothers and their sponsors. Hope they do well this year. Are they in competition?

22. What's really intriguing.. |
|
is that Nevada could decide the whole thing. Think about it.
Imagine a scenario: most polls for eastern time zone states close within an hour of each other. Imagine all of the Gore states sticking with Kerry, and all of the Bush states sticking with Bush - with the exception of West Virginia.
Then imagine the central time zone states closing their polls around the same times. Louisiana, Tennessee, and Missouri go Bush; meanwhile, Kerry holds-onto Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
Then the mountain time zone states begin closing their polls. At this point, it's certain that New Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii will go blue. It's also pretty certain that Colorado and Arizona will eeek red. But Nevada is a toss-up.
At that point in time, the whole country could be waiting on those 5 electoral votes. Hell, the whole civilized world will draw in and hold one of those big, deep, dramatic breaths.. waiting to see if the imbecile is defeated. Incredible. And kinda scary-close.
So I think you all profusely for working your tails off in Nevada {and those in other swing states}. Thank you, thank you, thank you! (I wish we had one of those Wayne's World "We're not worthy" emoticons here..)
