I predicted Barack Obama would be President 20 years ago, says Scots professor

Jun 9 2008

THE potential of Barack Obama to become the first black president of the United States was spotted more than 20 years ago by his Scottish law professor.

Ian Macneil was a visiting professor at Harvard Law School when Obama was a student there.

The professor emeritus, who now lives in Edinburgh's Grange, said his young charge showed "a commanding presence" even then.

And he was so impressed he told his wife: "I think I have found America's first black president."

Professor Macneil said: "He was a calm person. I began to conclude he was a person of not just strong character, but as a person of real honest-to-God integrity."

2. THESE are the people who need to speak out...
When Racists use "young and inexperienced" as a thinly veiled excuse not to vote for Obama.

You just cannot argue with endorsements from the people who know how Obama compares in the real world.

K&R!

we're not hearing much from all the professors and other people who predicted that joe schmoe or jane shmane would be our next president, or first black president, or next winner of american idol for that matter.

on the other hand, i doubt we'll hear too many well-respected people claiming to have found in mccain a future president of the united states when his pop was pulling strings to keep him from failing out of the naval academy....

6. Here's what you might soon be hearing from acquaintances of gramps:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3407661&mesg_id=3407727

Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.

‘When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it.

‘Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.

‘This is a guy who makes such a big deal about his character. He has no character. He is a fake. If there was any character in that first marriage, it all belonged to Carol

9. I read an interview with someone who worked with him on the Harvard Law Review.
The interview was published before Obama even ran for Senator. In it, the guy (who's name I don't recall) said he felt like he was talking to a future President of the United States when he met Obama. That stuck with me.

I guarantee these numbers will be picked. Which weeks they'll each be picked is a little fuzzy.

15. Contrasts 180 degress with the impression made by Bu**sh** ...
Sept. 16, 2004 | For 25 years, Yoshi Tsurumi, one of George W. Bush's professors at Harvard Business School, was content with his green-card status as a permanent legal resident of the United States. But Bush's ascension to the presidency in 2001 prompted the Japanese native to secure his American citizenship. The reason: to be able to speak out with the full authority of citizenship about why he believes Bush lacks the character and intellect to lead the world's oldest and most powerful democracy.
"I don't remember all the students in detail unless I'm prompted by something," Tsurumi said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "But I always remember two types of students. One is the very excellent student, the type as a professor you feel honored to be working with. Someone with strong social values, compassion and intellect -- the very rare person you never forget. And then you remember students like George Bush, those who are totally the opposite."
