Clinton urges her delegates to back Obama
Hillary Clinton on Monday asked Democratic primary delegates who would have supported her in her presidential bid to back her former rival Barack Obama.

The request came in a Monday night teleconference, said Virgil J. Mayberry, a Rock Island County Board member and one of Sen. Clinton's delegates.

Sen. Clinton threw her support behind Sen. Obama Saturday after suspending her campaign.

"She wants us to unite behind Obama and help him," said Mr. Mayberry, who chairs his party's minority caucus on the county board.

What more do you want her to do?

28. Yes, they will. There are some here who have become so enamored with their
hatred of Hillary that they cannot let it go. Fortunately, they are in the minority and may not even be Obama supporters at all. Unfortunately, some of them seem to jump into nearly every post with their negativity. Many of them seem to just enjoy stirring shit to make it stink. Maybe they will disappear after Wednesday.

15. Well ...
I want her to go on the campaign trail for him, I want her to meet with some of her disaffected supporters and talk to them about supporting him. I want her to come out and as her supporters to stop claiming the primaries were rigged by the DNC. (Do you know how outrageous that claim sounds?)

26. I want her to admit that he won this primary fair and square and
stop lying about the popular vote and peddling the "18 million" meme. It's divisive language. So in one breath, she's saying these things. In another breath, she's asking people to support him. It's cover and I don't trust her. She's saying support him but still has her surrogates trying to push her to be VP behind closed doors. She ain't slick.

5. I'll give her points on this move, cause I was starting to question her ability to lead.....
Cause up to now, her leadership has been lacking considering the website that are Hillary supporter Obama hatin' sites!

she's got a way to go.......but I'll wait a while longer.

But my point still stands, for now: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6334463

30. How does doubting someone's ability to lead equal "hating?" I know plenty of good...
...people who couldn't lead a bayonet squadron out of a paper bag, but I don't hate any of them.

32. "You hate her!" is a red herring...
People who strongly dislike Hillary Clinton's politics--have a right to their opinion.

Positioning those feelings as "hate" is just one way to diminish and silence people.

I have no use for her politics. I haven't for years now. I'm plugged in. I know
what's going on. I'm a grown woman who reads and has formed an opinion.

We can all disagree about this subject, but screaming, "HATER!" every time someone
brings forth an opinion about Hillary Clinton, that doesn't jive with your own--is
a bit silly.

Plus, it's a play out of the Republican handbook. Let's not sink to that level.

9. okay this puts her ahead of lots of other 2nd place finishers
it wouldn't be unprecedented for her to go through the roll call and if she's doing this now, months before, i am impressed.

:applause:

and it might just get her VP, although I think that would not be the best fit and not a great use of her talents (or anybody who actually has any talent), she's smart and strong enough to be 1st fiddle somewhere, like the court or Attorney General, etc.

Hillary, if you see this, when you are gracious i love you. i think you would've had this nomination if that was the plan throughout the primaries, yes, it would have been close, but i think you would've gotten it.

10. Someone today said that most drop-outs take 4 months to endorse
after dropping out, but most do not drop out this late..so the 4 month window is not realy accurate in this case..

It's probably too late for some to come around, but the ones who do are quite welcome :)

The MSM painted her as a monster. She is not. She cares deeply about our party and victory in November.

I just thought she wanted her daughter and other women who looked up to her to have the chance to hear her delegates cast their votes for her at the convention.

I just mean the MSM has really warped public perception of her. I honestly think that bringing the party back together is more important then anything to her and that she really will fight for Obama.

The majority of responses here are rather positive. Most of us actually WANT to see party unity.

37. Didn't the talking point for Clinton used to be
that her negatives are no big deal?

Re-reading post #32 might also add perspective on everyone's right and responsbility to express disagreement if one does not support a public figure. That includes Obama, in other forums if not this one after tomorrow.

NYT: Hillary's Debts Could Burden Her For Years

By Eric Kleefeld - June 10, 2008, 9:03AM

Along with all the other historic firsts in this campaign cycle, Hillary Clinton may have just set another new milestone in her campaign: The largest presidential campaign debt in history. The New York Times notes this morning that Hillary's large debts, including $9.5 million in unpaid bills to vendors, could dog her for years with only a limited legal range of options on how to deal with it.

For example, any renegotiated debts would have have to be approved by the FEC, after having ensured that a good-faith effort was made to pay it off. And Hillary could end up spending a long time raising cash expressly for the purposes of paying off old bills, not financing a current or future campaign.

The NYT article mentions that McCain promised to help Giuliani pay off his debt ($3.6 million), and why that's difficult.

The article also cites Hillary's vendor debt at the end of April, $9.5 million, but it has grown to $19.5 million. The current figures has her debt at $30 million, including the $11 million personal loan. Not sure how much that is reduced by cash on hand in remaining primary funds. Hillary also a $23 million in GE funds, which she could get permission from supporters to apply to her campaign debt.
