Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 07:31 PM by rug
When Germany invaded the Soviet Union and declared war on the United States six months later, the war was over. The combined steel output of those two countries alone swamped Germany's.
Look at McCain.
Weak fundraising.
Tied at the waist to Bush.
A splintered GOP.
An abhorrent war.
Foreclosures.
Economy tanking.
Gas.
And then there's McCain.
No matter how much racism, anti-latteism, and general stupidity, he simply can't win.
The election is over. The rest is sturm and drang. I may have to feign an interest in baseball to carry me through to November.

my entire voting life.
The most he's had to do is fundraise--for OTHERS.
He was playing defense before we even had a candidate--now he's exposing his weaknesses (doesn't like the Bush comparison, etc).
I'm SO waiting for the Epic Fail.

When on election day in November, the electronic voting machines count the votes and we're left scratching our heads. The only way McCain can win is for them to steal it. One of the only ways we have to prevent that is to flood the polls (new voter registration is key now), volunteer on election day for GOTV, and volunteer at the polling places through our local registrars' offices to be a part of the process.

I posted something yesterday in the lamentably deceased GD Primaries to this effect.
I certainly have no love for McCain, but I am constantly struck by the degree to which his own party hates him. They often use terms like "betrayal" when they talk about him, and they get all worked up about his stand (whatever it might be) on "amnesty."
But the real dealbreaker for these dumbshits seems to be that John McCain acknowledges the fact that global warming exists. He gave a speech to this effect a few weeks ago in Oregon, if memory serves, and all the usual RW assholes like Hannity and Limbaugh went completely apeshit that he could do such a horrible thing. They showed footage of Limbaugh talking about this, and he became so despondent that he stopped talking (a miracle in and of itself) and hung his head in his hands.
So these observations support my premise: The GOP hate their own candidate more than we hate their candidate. And we hate their candidate. I don't think I've ever observed this phenomenon before.
Obviously I offer the usual caveats, that we should take nothing for granted and we need an excellent GOTV operation, etc., etc., etc... but I repeat: The Republicans cannot even get it up for their own fucking candidate that won the delegates necessary to earn their nomination three fucking months ago.
So, in closing, I am optimistic about our chances for this November.

39. Your points are all SUPER valid! |
|
and yet, GOPers ignore facts, you know better, and racism will also bring them out, as will anti-Muslim feelings (to a smaller degree) AND, never "misunderestimate" (as Dumya would say) the ability of the GOP to rig elections in dozens of counties (or states they run) where they can manipulate the vote, and voter roles.
One doesn't have to think too far back to realize B*sh got stomped in the debates, had an unpopular war, lots of issues that were against him and he still 'won', thanks to Ohio's miraculous turnaround for the sitting pResident.
We are going to win, but I have no false illusions about an obvious win. I hope I'm wrong and it's a landslide 55-45 victory... but I'm thinking a 51-49 win for us and a 20-30 electoral majority.

This election is in the bag.
About the only thing that could change things would be some massively-unifying event, like a major terrorist attack.
And if the terrorists are smart, they know this and will lay off of the attacks so that the sooner we leave the better - the last thing they want is to inspire Americans to revenge.

Nor is that accomplished simply by taking Congress as well.
BTW, I did not suggest scratching our collective balls is the solution. Taking power requires much more than that. Electing a President this year does not.
IMHO.

I think we need to find additional motivators to ensure people get out and vote. Some will not make the effort if they believe he's won in their state.
Perhaps push the message that we are looking for high turnouts because each vote will serve a dual purpose. Cast one vote. Send two messages. Yes to Obama for President and No to our country's condition.
Challenge each state, county and town to represent themselves like never before.
