Boyda endorses Obama
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 07:49 PM by Mabus
I hope this puts to rest the criticism that Nancy is not a Democrat. She's been catching a lot of undue shit from certain people on this forum who have been insinuating that she's not a Democrat.

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2008/jun/11/boyda_endorses_obama/

Topeka — U.S. Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Topeka, on Wednesday made it official — she's endorsing Barack Obama for president.

Boyda and a handful of Democrats from more conservative congressional districts made headlines last week by staying uncommitted even after Obama clinched the party’s nomination over Hillary Clinton.

Boyda, a freshman, is preparing for a tough re-election bid in the district that runs from the northeast corner of Kansas to the southeast corner, and includes western Lawrence. She will face either State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, or former Rep. Jim Ryun, who she narrowly defeated in 2006.

Liz Montano, a Boyda spokeswoman, said Boyda has always said she would back the Democratic nominee.

She said she decided to announce her support of Obama now because his campaign has promised to focus on all 50 states instead of only so-called swing states.

Montano said Boyda still plans to skip the Democratic National Convention in Denver so she can work in the district. “She’d rather be doing her day job,” she said.

edited to add bolding to the paragraph citing the reason it took so long for her to endorse him. She was elected because of the 50 State Strategy and it appears she held out until she had assurance that Kansas wasn't written off. Once again, Boyda is looking out for Kansans.

2. I guess she got the message!
I sent her an email. I was polite but made it very clear I was very upset and thought she was being a coward.

3. That is accusatory. I am glad she did this.
We got her attention, and she did the right thing.

Please stop accusing me of the stuff you have been.

She is a Democrat and she is right to endorse Obama. It will not hurt her re-election to be proud of the nominee.

Kudos to her.

4. To be honest, there are many people here if you do not believe as they do,
you will be accused of not being a Democrat. They make their tent very small. Minds can be that way too.

8. Thanks.
So she planned it this way all along. I have never seen her cave to pressure as has been suggested. I doubt she cares much about pressure from other states. Whatever makes them feel good I guess. Will post more when off this blackberry.

9. Conservative dems have to campaign differently. They have to bring the focus more local.
In this case, she uses Obama's 50 state strategy as pretense for her endorsement.
