The End of the Reagan Era In One Paragraph - So Simple and Beautiful

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Barack Obama accused John McCain today of offering a tax cut plan which would bring corporations $2 trillion in tax breaks, including $1.2 billion for ExxonMobil, and will add $5.7 trillion to the national debt. As oil and gas prices reach record highs, Obama is beginning to portray McCain as the candidate whose policies will intensify the current economic crisis.

“At a time when we’re fighting two wars, when millions of Americans can’t afford their medical bills or their tuition bills, when we’re paying more than $4 a gallon for gas, the man who rails against government spending wants to spend $1.2 billion on a tax break for Exxon Mobil,” Obama said in his remarks on the economy today. “That isn’t just irresponsible. It’s outrageous.”

---

there is something going on here...a new more populist economic frame is being built here right before our eyes by obama.

what has been called "tax relief" for a generation is now being called corporate "tax give aways"...the idea that the almighty reagan trickle down "tax relief" (the conservative wellspring from which every other good conservative thing comes) is NOW something that one john w mccain has to purchase by "spending your money" on...on tax giveaways to giant multi-national corporations and super rich CEO's, is a development for progressives to applaud.

"fiscal conservatives" who are fiscally irresponsible...and continuing to tie mccsame to bush....brilliant.

i really don't think the mccain camp realizes yet the thumping they are going to get, obama is coming to get them.

1. Edwards might be having an influence on that

Kicking corporate ass is my every intention for the next decade, and I liked what Edwards was saying beforehe suspended.

4. I'm still verklempt about this "Edward is a corporate butt-kicker" meme.
He never was, still isn't and only took cases against corporations to make money. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it wasn't to beat corporations - it was to make money.

Check out his voting record. He wasn't a Rooseveltian Trust Buster in any sense of the word.

2. a new headline in the economics forum
has int'l bankers worried about a depression b/c of the mtg loan crisis.

if we had a republican trying to deal with an economic depression we'd be eating the grass in our lawns before the govt. would create enough confidence and jobs/income to dig out from under the Bush mess.

And if this happens, the thing that pisses me off so badly is those who profited from these ruinous economic policies will never face any consequences. Is it any wonder ppl are cynical about the U.S. when justice is arbitrary? Actually it's not arbitrary. Money buys your way out of any crime.

3. "Money buys your way out of any crime."
And there you have it. It's sickening what we've become.
