A very, very short history of the real Mavericks
Many of you will be familiar with this history, but I was not, and upon learning it I was struck by how wildly inappropriate the "maverick" label is for Uncle Scrotus (aka McSame).

Maverick was in fact the name of one of the great liberal families of Texas. Samuel Maverick was (among many other things) a cattle rancher who refused to brand his stock for, I can only imagine, humanitarian reasons; the result were wandering, unlabeled cattle known, naturally, as "mavericks."

Samuel's son, Maury, was a Democratic politician who reveled in living up to his name by defending the downtrodden, including Hispanic citizens and communists. Maury Maverick Jr., another Democrat, and a famously and ferociously liberal newspaper editor, died in 2003 at the age of 82, but not before denouncing the invasion of Iraq in his last published editorial.

Seems almost a crime that McLame should have appropriated this fine name for his own status-quo-maintaining purposes.

1. McMore seems to have had a temper and behavior problem
as a young man. This has been shined up and he was labeled a "maverick" instead of "behavioral connected @sshole". It's nice to have relatives in high places. :)

3. How interesting --
I never questioned where the term came from. (I had a cat named Maverick, once.) Thanks for post this -- and yes, of all the people to wear that title... ;grr:

5. Judging from that banner behind the car, they knew where they were getting the name from!
I've always wanted one of those - I'm a bit of a sucker for 70s muscle cars, which tends to undercut my hatred of SUVs, but hey: I am vast, I contain multitudes.
