Kerry Press Release: Kerry Campaign Statement on Zell Miller Keynoting GOP
For Immediate Release
August 19, 2004

Kerry Campaign Statement on Zell Miller Keynoting the GOP Convention

Kerry campaign spokesman Phil Singer: “We are thrilled that the Republican Convention is going to feature someone who -- in his own words -- thinks John Kerry is an ‘authentic hero’ who has worked to ‘strengthen our military.’”

ZELL MILLER ON JOHN KERRY

Kerry An “Authentic Hero”: "My job tonight is an easy one: to present to you one of this nation's authentic heroes, one of this party's best-known and greatest leaders -- and a good friend. He was once a lieutenant governor -- but he didn't stay in that office 16 years, like someone else I know. It just took two years before the people of Massachusetts moved him into the United States Senate in 1984. -- U.S. Senator Zell Miller (Remarks to the Democratic Party of Georgia Jefferson Jackson Dinner 2001)

Kerry “Strengthened Our Military”: "In his 16 years in the Senate, John Kerry has fought against government waste and worked hard to bring some accountability to Washington. Early in his Senate career in 1986, John signed on to the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Deficit Reduction Bill, and he fought for balanced budgets before it was considered politically correct for Democrats to do so. John has worked to strengthen our military, reform public education, boost the economy and protect the environment.” -- U.S. Senator Zell Miller (Remarks to the Democratic Party of Georgia Jefferson Jackson Dinner 2001)

4. Nice to see
There's nothing better than using people's words against themselves. For those of you angry about Kerry's inactivity, well, you should be happy now.

7. This is in response to Zell nominating shrub for Pres at RNC
convention. I know I just heard this morning that he was chosen to do that. I think it could backfire on the pubs. The Pubs don't like or trust him either. I'll laugh myself silly if he gets booed off the stage!

19. Fantastic!
Haha!! That was only 3 years ago too! Who's the flip-flopper here?

My theory on Zell is that he was too conservative to ever become powerful in the Democratic Party, so he sold his soul to the GOP to raise his profile. If he wasn't a dem endorsing Bush, no one would know who he was. He's just a political opportunist of the worst kind with no morals or principles whatsoever.

24. Can't deny the PR of a democrat senator endorsing shrub
favors GOP. Zell should be expelled BEFORE their
convention so that there is no longer a democrat
endorsing shrub.

25. Zell's remarks available on his Senate website
He praised Cleland in the same speech: "I'm honored to serve with Max Cleland, who is as loved and respected as anyone in that body. One of our very highest priorities must be to make sure this man is re-elected in 2002 so he can continue to serve this state and nation."
