NYT Thursday: Obama limiting media access to campaign?
This is from Drudge. No need to go there, there's no link to the story:

NYT THURSDAY: Obama aides increasingly limiting access for reporters; controlling settings Obama is photographed or filmed... Developing...

Good idea? Yes? No?

Wasn't there some wailing and gnashing of teeth when someone else did this?

2. Huh? The dude is a walking press conference...
Heck, John McCain's camp derides Obama as a traveling photo-op. The press can't get enough of him, and the McCain campaign implies that Obama is getting too much coverage.

23. Yep
Hey, I understand sincere concern, coming from people that have witnessed the last 8 years of cynical image orchestration by BushCo. Just the same, to paint the media as righteous actors is both inaccurate and naive. These are people out for a story - any story.

6. Good Idea, Sir
The 'chattering class' that the Fourth Estate has become needs curbing at present. Restricting their access gives the campaign more control over its message. It also will set up a competition for access, in which the only bidding currency can be favorable comment and coverage. Sen. Obama's campaign is 'the story' this year, not McCain's. Since it is the one the chatterers will ant to be with, make them pay for the privilege....

7. I thought he did this during the primaries, too. Let Obama pick the
time and place, I say. He's got the reins. I don't see anything wrong with this though reporters will grumble. They're going to grumble anyway.

26. I remember it was about
keeping the national manipulated news out and letting the local news do the job. They knew they had to do something..our media is outta control.

I'm so glad they've learned from what Gore, Dean, and Kerry had to deal with.

12. that's not true. He was photographed with young Muslim women YESTERDAY
and it was campaign volunteers that asked some Muslim women not to be seated directly behind Obama.

13. I'm going to reserve my judgement for when (if) the article comes out
In general, I would say media limitations is a no no, but if it has to do with Obama's kids (for example) then it would make sense. Not enough information at this point to form an opinion.

15. just part of the push and pull of the campaign
the press, for obvious reasons, wants Obama to be available to them 24/7. Obama, for obvious reasons, wants to limit them and control they way his image is used, unlike McCain, who wants to regale the press with stories until everyone nods off.

17. Some of the comments already expose just how naive some DU'ers really are. Why the hell would
Obama open himself up for constant scrutiny from corporate Mediawhores in the National press to anxious for some unscripted moment to twist.

His campaign gives more access to local news who actually tailor their coverage to the people Obama needs for votes.

25. Now that the primaries are over, and Obama is definitely the nominee
The secret service protection goes into higher gear. It's probably a combination of message control and security needs.

28. Good idea
The media makes stuff up on a regular basis, specially when it comes to Democrats. Access to Obama means more access to speculation.
