Russ Feingold, the Democratic half of John McCain's campaign finance reform efforts, criticizes Obama's choice to opt out of public financing:
"This is not a good decision," Feingold said in a statement today. "While the current public financing system for the presidential primaries is broken, the system for the general election is not. The entire system must be updated."
If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.
The stakes are far too high in that reproductive rights preservation, torture not being allowed, war with Iran being prevented, global warming preventative methods, etc., are at stake. This is the most critical election in many years. Senator Obama HAS to win this election. He HAS TO.
And Senator Feingold, even though his statement is relatively mild, created an additional burden on Senator Obama today and quite simply helped Senator Mccain. The stakes could not be higher and quite simply now is not the time for senators to try to advance their pet causes by bashing the presumptive nominee.
