I donated to John McCain. |
|
I have really mixed feelings about Obama opting out of public financing, but all in all I think it was the right move. But I realized that Obama's opting out means I essentially donated $3 to John McCain earlier this year when I did my taxes!
I remember when I did my taxes, I thought about the prospect that Obama might opt out and my money might end up going to his opponents. I considered leaving it blank, but decided not to, because I believe in the system. Still, I'm kind of mad that my $3 are going to be used against my candidate!

1. Just give $3 to Obama's campaign to atone for your sin. |

Whenever I donate to Obama next, I will add $3 to whatever I was going to give. I am holding off for now to see what he does on FISA...I plan to donate again in the future no matter what, but I think if the campaign sees a significant slowdown in online fundraising in the couple days after he announced his position it might have an impact. I am still plenty enthused about his candidacy, but I want to help send a statement to set a precedence of netroots activists having influence.

18. But mail it in - don't let the $3 be eaten in online cc processing fees. |

they will use the three bucks to buy a clue? One that cost that much is worth three hundred times more than the clues they can come up with on their own!

and eat and drink everything in sight, and take some home, too. But don't donate. Then you'll feel better.

6. Do they serve food at rallies? |

Usually they only serve food at events you have to pay for.

8. I'm thinking of donating too |
|
as everyone I've ever donated to loses, this is a way to ensure a democratic victory or at least ensure that my donations to Obama do not have the usual bad result.

10. Hmm, that's a good point |

That's been my record with volunteering, for the most part. Until 2006, everyone I had ever volunteered for lost. Then I volunteered for a few candidates in 2006 and 2007 as part of a coordinated campaign and some of them won. But I just campaigned for whoever the Arlington Young Democrats or the local labor movement were campaigning for that day...I did not have a personal stake in any of the candidates beyond their party label. Obama's the first candidate I've ever gone out of my way to volunteer for who's ever won. And I think winning the nomination counts as a victory!

I didn't check the box this year. I always check the box - but this year I didn't. I didn't file until late March and could see that it wasn't Mitt - so figured it would be someone who would really need the money (McCain). Shameful I know.
It's only $3 dollars. Don't sweat it! ;-)

It goes into a fund. McCain only gets matching $ for $ he raised. Everything else stays in the fund for the next cycle. We checked it on our form too. It helped John Edwards too.
