Have we ever, completely, totally agreed? (a quick, gentle rant with a bit of humor, I hope) |
|
I've been on DU since 2003, racked up zillions of posts, lots of friends and a few bitter enemies. It's certain that if you've been here a while, we've encountered each other.
So tell me; have I ever disagreed with you? Have you ever disagreed with me? Like, a big whole lot? I bet we both have disagreed big time; I'd nearly guarantee it.
Some of my best friends on some issues have pissed me off royally--ROYALLY on other issues. I bet every one of us can say the same. So I ask, with the deepest respect to my DU friends/enemies/friends:
Can we please, please, retire the term "lockstep" from the DU vocabulary? When talking about DUers, I think it's ridiculous myself. We're people who can argue about Olive Garden, Laura Branigan and capri pants enough to get the threads locked, for pity's sakes!
I'm a pragmatist who wants a better country; you are an idealist who wants a better country. We see two different ways of achieving the same goal and the great thing is that we're both right about how to go about it. A healthy democracy needs both ways of apparoaching a problem.
And if I've ever accused anyone on this board of being in "lockstep," I apologize and plead momentary insanity; there's no such think on DU, IMHO.

2. Perhaps I am! Anyway, it just turns me off of any argument the user has. |
|
Maybe I should have put that (I had it before then edited the HELL out of my rant!)

Now, Olive Garden is another matter. That %@%&!! place is crap. :)
I agree. Let's retire the work lockstep.

4. I like you. I consider you a DU friend. |

We have disagreed, but I've learned that it's wise to choose battles. If I see my friend B@L post something that I vehemently disagree with, I'll just avoid the thread. The world is not aching to hear my views on every single topic.
If more people would choose their battles at DU, it'd be a nicer place. :)

Remember after Katrina, the auction that we had for Katrina victims?
I bought the big cobalt flute that you and Clay made.
I still have it hanging in my living room...I've received a million compliments on it...I pull it off the wall and play it when people notice it...and they are astonished that it actually works.
I love my cobalt blue flute.

6. That's how I approach it; but I find myself starting to agree with someone sometimes, |
|
then they accuse others of "lockstepping" and it just shuts my thought processes down.
As you might have guesses, it's happened this morning!

8. LOL....if there's one thing one cannot say about DU... |
|
it's that its members "lockstep."
I hate that term almost as much as I hate "sheeple," which I'm glad has fallen out of the DU lexicon since you and I joined many moons ago.
