Currently, on the front page of GDP, |
|
there are 14 threads attacking the Democratic nominee. There are 12 threads attacking the Republican nominee.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Honesty should not be compromised.
Most of the attacks I've seen against Obama include an "I'll hold my nose and vote for him anyway" clause.
I would like to see more pressure put on the media for all the McCain shenanigans that aren't getting airplay... La Jollagate being the number one issue... if the Obama's hadn't paid taxes, we'd be hearing about it 24/7.

constitutional devotion from FDR of all people.
I love FDR but he mangled the constitution when he had to.

I'm saying accountability for telling the truth is something we need to keep a firm grip on regardless of who is being dishonest.

And ANY presidential candidate, regardless of party affiliation, should be held to the same standards! If we don't hold Obama to those standards, we have no right to pick on McCain at all.
Obama blew it. He needs to learn that honesty is the best policy. Clark praised McCain's service! Called him a hero even. But that isn't a qualification for president.
I feel for McCain. I honestly do. You can look through DU and find me saying this time and time again. What he went through is horrific, and no human being should be subjected to being held captive or to be tortured. Captivity and torture are horrible things that do horrible things to the human psyche. Instead of a qualification, I see McCain's service as a disqualification if anything.

Obama could have distanced himself very easily without throwing Clark under the bus and discounting what Clark said. Clark spoke the truth.

Never. That you would confuse is telling. I never voted for Hillary, never said I would vote for Hillary, never sent her money, nothing. She was never my candidate.

And... if you are going to accuse someone of something, you should learn to spell that something. :eyes: Perhaps you should look up the definition as well, since you are full of crap on this. I doubt you know the meaning of the word any better than you know how to spell it. Foreign word to you, obviously.

It's called using the same yardstick to measure everyone.
This whole deal is a blessing in disguise. We need to let it play out, see what else Clark and others have to say about McCain's service, without being cry babies with tender feet.
McCain is running with his military service as a mighty shield. It's a facade... there are a lot of holes in that service record... those things need looked at and Obama isn't the one to do it. I think we can all agree on that. Some Obama supporters here are upset at what we perceive as dishonesty. There were other ways to frame this without throwing Clark under the bus, which is rapidly becoming Obama's favorite trick. Clark didn't say anything wrong. Nor did Rev. Wright. Yet there they are... disowned.
Clark spoke the truth and he didn't deserve the back hand.

I know the netroots hate to hear it, but had just 1% of the Nader-voters in Florida set aside their bogus "concerns" about "purity" and "principles" and voted for Gore, Bush would not have been President.

|
Everyday it seems to be something else. The left wing romanticists seem to seek out thing about Obama to piss them off when he doesn't line up with their doctrinal purity. I think they would rather have Obama be pure and far left than be elected. Yes, how could they ever bring themselves to vote for anyone who is not liberally perfect.

Every time I mention something he did that I didn't like. There is a big difference between objecting to what the man may say and NOT voting for him anyway.
Obama could eat puppies on the steps of the Senate building and he would still be better than McCain.

I only come here a couple of times a week since the primaries ended, post a couple of noncontroversial replies and get my ass jumped for the trouble.
We've got the best damn candidate we've had in DECADES and some people here want to shit all over it. It seems Obama didn't turn out to be Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandella, Noam Chomsky and Karl Marx all rolled into one.

18. That's right - I'm surprised at how many fair-weather democrats there are. |
|
Obama cannot win the election with the left only.
This is a different game than the primaries by orders of magnitude.
If you don't believe it call John Kerry.
Or big Al Gore.
If he doesn't pander to the right on some very serious issues we are stuck with McCain.
The hateful ignorance of some of the folks around here is astonishing.

30. I expect Repubs to suck. Hence, criticizing them all the time becomes redundant. |
|
I hold our party to a higher standard, as I believe almost all of us do. So we tend to see more criticism of our own. Criticism and self-analysis in and of itself is not a bad thing. How it's framed and presented is where the problem comes in, but in most of those cases where it's done in a superficial way the mods have locked it down fairly quickly.
Despite Obama being our candidate he isn't a perfect being and he has, and will, make mistakes, and do things some people won't agree with, etc. The fact that we question our own and don't follow blindly along is one of the numerous things that makes us better than the GOP. It's not a perfect situation, but it's what makes us us. Trying to change that will be like pissing into the wind, and I personally don't think we should change that about us anyways.
