Question on McCain Taxes for California DUers
Edited on Mon Jun-30-08 02:36 PM by CanonRay
The news report says that Cindy McCain paid four years back taxes on their beachfront condo in LaJolla, totalling $6744.42. Now, I'm no math wiz, but that figures to about $1611.05 per year for the taxes.

Here's my question: Does this seem like a realistic amount for taxes for a beachfront condo in toney San Diego county? Not to mention penalties? Interest? What gives?

Are they taking some kind of senior citizen tax break? If so, don't those require residency?

I'm not familiar with California real estate, but I'm really curious about this.

2. Depends on when
she got it. If it was before Prop 13 then that doesn't seem unreasonable. But that was 1978 that that law passed.

Now $1600 a year seems pretty low.

3. I tried to search the Assessor's records online
and actually located a 2002 deed transfer involving the McCain Cindy Hensley Trust, but I can't search Assessor records by name, only by property id, which I don't have.

4. Don't know CA specifically but condos pay prop taxes through their assoc dues in some cases
and a smaller portion is paid dirctly by the owner. IIRC
