89. I would put money on it.
Clark is way to smart to just open himself up to attack without a purpose behind it.

I would bet money this was coordinated.

I think we're well advised to pay attention to what *all* of them are doing. They are politicians, after all. That goes for DK as well as Obama.

12. Best to get it over with now
Obama was bound to disappoint us, such is the weight of expectation on his shoulders. If it means that people are less starry-eyed and more realistic when voting for him, that's fine by me, as long as they do vote for him.

17. I am not disappointed...as far as General Clark's statements
I applaud them because he spoke the truth. I always wondered why McCain got a free pass on his service and everyone including the MSM are "starry eyed" over his military record and were vicious and despicable when it came to John Kerry's record. I do not trust John McCain for one minute and it does not have to do with his military record. I do not trust him on the issues, on his votes and on his election year conversion on taxes espousing Bush's tax cuts for the rich and the failed Iraq War.

So no, I'm not too concerned. Sorry. It's just not practical to dismiss a candidate because he/she does a few things you don't agree with. Not in this world, anyway. It would be great to be able to, but that's not the way it is. This isn't a case of "Which candidate reflects every one of my most pure morals and beliefs?" This is a case of "There are two candidates to choose from; Evil and Not-Quite-Perfect."

76. I have a lot of appreciation for closet smokers, having been one
myself on and off for the last 20 years. It's hard work. You wouldn't believe what I go through to make sure the smell doesn't get in my clothes or hair. And the wet wipes I have to carry around to clean my hands nad face with and then the scented lotion on top of that. Oh yeah, the travel toothbrush, the tiny bottles of Scope, the gum that's so minty it'll make your tongue raw. And to top it off, sugar free cinnamon candy.

So, I'll have to find something else to be mad about. Now, let's see... I'm sure there's something. Oh yeah. I don't care for the beige suit with the reddish tie. He's best in black or navy. So I'm really, really pissed about that suit, dammit all to hell.

Obama could be caught in bed covered in milk with a basket of kittens and he wouldn't concern me nearly as much as Hillary would. I'll forever be grateful to him for knocking her out.

77. Me, me, me!
If you check the anti-McCain guide I wrote months ago and then the updated one I did recently, Obama is following the guidelines I suggested. No character attacks on McCain, and start every attack on McCain's actions by first praising him as a hero.

People at DU need to understand that right now both McSame and Obama are courting the same middle of the road, indepedent voters. That means that they will be stumbling all over each other trying to look as bland and safe as possible in the months to come.

Neither will attempt to court their base.

This does not bother me. This is how elections are won.

79. Are you kidding?
There's people around here who think that if you don't start a post "Hail Obama" that you're some sort of DINO.

They're so pernicious and persistent and use so many of each other's talking points it's tough to avoid imagining them all in some boiler room together yakking it up around the water cooler when their fingers get tired.

80. I'm a happy camper.

It's like Bill Clinton said. You fall in love during the primary, and fall in line during the general (courting is more exhilarating than marriage hehe).

We Democrats have chosen our candidate, now the hard part starts. Getting him elected. We are up against a party that will stoop to any low, tell any lie, commit any dirty trick, and might even drop bombs on Iran to get elected.

We don't need to attack our own candidate. What is the point? He is not perfect. Nuff said.

There have been a lot more Rep presidents than Democratic ones in my adult life time. So I look at the Democratic campaigns that were successful. Kennedy, Johnson, Carter (the first time) and Clinton. Non ran as a flaming liberal (neither did FDR, or Truman, before my time), and they would not have been elected if they had.

83. Oh yeah. I took a break post-primaries. Obama and I are still tight.
and I've been spending more time in GD. Big mistake...I end up spending whole days arguing with UFO cultists sometimes. I'm trying to stick to GD-P and the Economics forum. On the presidential race, I really don't care all that much about FISA. My main worry is how Obama will handle the mess the GOP are handing him so he doesn't end up being a 1-term president. This is a lot nastier than the recession Clinton got from GHWB. But then GWHB was basically competent. If it wasn't for his idiot son we'd feel a little better about him nowadays.

88. angry, disappointed or concerned?
Negative.

Hell, I'm pleasantly surprised. He's has to be so close to perfect that it automatically unnerves some people, and for the most part he's doing it. We've got a crazy preacher (who isn't even that crazy within context of what he was QUOTING and certainly compared to other crazy preachers of renown), some snippet of a quote a about bitter people clinging to guns and religion, and some charges of flip/flopping on some stuff that was clearly not locked down. Implied? Arguably. PROMISED? Nope.

This guy knows how to run. Seriously, I don't see how anyone but the most deadended out would be voting for McCain. McSame is reduced to the mostly talking about his years of experience and POW Veteran status.
Other than that, he's going with some gimmicks to make big carbon some ca$h, using the tax code to funnel all resources to the multi-national conglomerations, to ignore the populace, actively subvert the Constitution, continue to over extend the power of the executive, and of course stir up as many wars as their overlords desire for the military industrial complex.

Or

In other words, and as usual

A vote for McCain is a vote for more of the same.

CHICAGO - Reaching out to evangelical voters, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is announcing plans that would expand President Bush's program steering federal social service dollars to religious groups and — in a move sure to cause controversy — support their ability to hire and fire based on faith.

92. As the Wife of a Progressive Minister, I find that Obama's program benefits the poor
without religious test to recipients.

In community organizing he worked with Churches and understands that their locality to the neighborhoods in need makes them a good set up to help the very poor.

You being quite disingenious trolling this article trying to make it scary. Guess you are hoping enough progressives are scared of religion eh? The old stereotype works for you, I see.
---------------------------------------
The article that you posted states......

He also proposes a $500 million per year program to provide summer learning for 1 million poor children to help close achievement gaps with white and wealthier students. A campaign fact sheet said he would pay for it by better managing surplus federal properties, reducing growth in the federal travel budget and streamlining the federal procurement process.

Like Bush, Obama was arguing that religious organizations can and should play a bigger role in serving the poor and meeting other social needs. But while Bush argued that the strength of religious charities lies primarily in shared religious identity between workers and recipients, Obama was to tout the benefits of their "bottom-up" approach.

"Because they're so close to the people, they're well-placed to offer help," he was to say.

Obama does not see a need to push for a law to make this program work as Bush did, said a senior adviser to the campaign, who spoke on condition of anonymity to more freely describe the new policy.

Bush never got Congress to go along so he conducted his effort to give religious groups equal footing with nonsectarian groups in competing for federal contracts through administrative actions and executive orders.

Obama does not support requiring religious tests for aid recipients nor using federal money to proselytize, the official said.

Obama's announcement is part of a series of events leading up to Friday's Fourth of July holiday that are focused on American values.

KO made some good points about the bill.

That's always the problem with being a Senator, having to vote on these bullshit, mixed-bag bills like FISA.

also was checking the blogs on CNN.COM and MSNBC.COM and the majority of respondants are in agreement with Clark.

SO I guess the talking heads are wrong. People now are saying, hey, just cuz he's a vet doesn't make him automatic.

And Obama got to keep his hands clean (nice).

109. I don't.
When I read your OP this morning, I took it as yet another in the apparently coordinated effort by "concerned" DUers to attempt to undermine confidence in Barack Obama. I find those posts to be obnoxious, and I sincerely hope that all of the people posting them stub the large toe on their left foot, in a manner that inflicts throbbing pain for 8 to 10 hours.

If, however, I was as wrong as I now think I may have been, and you were commenting on those same obnoxious posts, then not only is it evident that I put my left foot in my mouth (Including but not limited to the big toe), but I definitely owe you a sincere apology. I am, at times, rather thick-skulled, and thus things go over my head.

Recently, I have found the anti-Obama tone on this forum unattractive, and have been keeping my participation limited. Again, if I was wrong, then I am the clown.

Everyone goes on and on about how dumb the media is, then when the next retarded handshake-gate-like meme comes rolling down the pike everyone is up in arms demanding that everyone send a googol of angry emails his way, and they aren't donating to the campaign anymore, and yada yada yada.

I think some people just aren't happy unless they're unhappy, and the prospect of a light at the end of this dark tunnel is irritating some part of their subconscious, leading to the present angst. :p

107. 100% Pro-Obama, but a bit concerned about the triangulation as of late
I don't think it's unfair or wrong to question some of his decision making as of late and to question the motives behind it. Sure, it may all be political positioning, but some of these fly in the face of several key and important areas that we as Democrats (or Progressives) are concerned about.

I am mainly concerned that this triangulation starts to disappear after these initial concessions are made. Obama is no doubt a strong leader and has many positions that I am excited about. My fear is that he might start to scrap those in favor of a more "moderate" approach.

My wife at times has even raised the scary notion that if his "Clark moments" continue, the party leaders may dump him at the convention and draft someone else.

And even disregarding that possibility, who would we really be electing? It's getting harder to tell.

As Butch Cassidy said to the Sundance Kid: "Who IS that guy???"
