I'm sick and tired of the media using the term WORKING CLASS voters |
|
I have never in any past Presidential election seen the media use this term before this election. And I think its only because Obama is running. In so many words the media is trying to question on whether Obama relates to the average white person. WORKING CLASS voter in my opinion is a code word the media is using to question Obama's qualifications as President. Every body is a working person in this country whether you are a millionaire or have an 8 hour job.

1. Are there even any working class people left in this country? |
|
I thought it was just rich or poor. (Or maybe the gentry and the peons)

2. You have got to be kidding... |
|
Working class has been used for decades. However, the Republicans and Rove started shifting the term to "uneducated" a few years back. I noticed that the Obama supporters began using "uneducated" instead of blue-collar or working class back in January.
Feel better? I hope not.

3. It's used instead of working poor, which should be the correct terminology |

It used to be that the M$M hardly ever mentioned the hourly wage/blue collar worker at all!! All I seem to hear is about the "middle class voters" but they don't mention the working poor or the poor hardly at all.

5. I think "working class voters" is code for "not rich voters". |

6. Not everybody is a working person - like GWB for example. |
|
He hasn't done anything useful for at least 8 years by my count. Some inherit their money or win the lottery... but yes most of us are working stiffs (or supporting our working stiff spouses by staying home with children), regardless of size of paycheck. If you're not living off your investment interest, you're a working stiff.

7. I actually like it because in our society we are so phobic about discussing class, and so we make |
|
huge categories of rich, poor, and middle class, when in fact there are a majority of people who are, in fact, NOT middle class, but who are working class. There are class markers that go along with the salary level. Of course I don't trust the media so I don't think it's a good thing because of them, but it's one of those things that's always bugged me. This country is so phobic about talking about class and putting everyone in the same big category of middle class is a symptom of that phobia and stigma.

8. "Every body is a working person in this country whether you are a millionaire or have an 8 hour job. |

I wouldn't go that far. Some millionaires worked to get where they are and earned their money. But then you have the imbeciles like Chimpy or Paris Hilton who were born rich and contribute nothing of value. And you have the vile leeches like oil speculators and the "defense" industry who openly steal from the American people.

They are often a few paychecks away from disaster.
Working class is a far more descriptive term for most Americans.
