Quite a Statement

07.09.08 -- 9:59AM By Josh Marshall

People say a lot of things about Social Security -- a lot of it nonsense. But I haven't heard something like this in a long time. John McCain says that Social Security, as originally conceived more than 70 years ago, is an "absolute disgrace."

McCain told a townhall in Denver on Monday, "Americans have got to understand that. Americans have got to understand that we are paying present-day retirees with the taxes paid by young workers in America today. And that's a disgrace. It's an absolute disgrace and it's got to be fixed."

It's really a disgrace? That's how the system was designed to operate. And it's served as financial bedrock of retirement security in this country for going on a century.

As if the Bush taxcuts and the Iraqi War were not enough, now he steps in another big pile by criticizing the Social Security system? No, he's not like George W Bush, is he??

4. Bizarre--probably the most important social program we have, designed
to keep the elderly and the disabled from begging in the streets. Yeah, that's a disgrace. Let the geezers eat cat food if they can't work until they're dead!

8. a DISGRACE? where does he come up with this stunning
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 12:21 PM by Bluerthanblue
logic?

To be honest, how is social security as he portrays it 'disgraceful'? The people who are in the work-force, the people who fund the schools, grow the foods, pay the taxes to keep society running as a generation of children are conceived, born, learn and grow- to join society, where they enter the work-force, fund the schools, grow the foods, pay the taxes that keep society running- which includes helping to provide for those who have come through the cycle of life?

What the fuck is 'disgraceful' about that? What IS 'disgraceful' is the reality that Cindy and John were born into families which had financial advantages that had absolutely NOTHING to do with either one of their own personal "merits"- but were the result of dumb luck- and then they have the audacity to try justify hoarding their money, as if they somehow 'earned' it????

Sorry johnny- you disgrace humanity.

peace~
