RNC protestors "Democratic-sanctioned" (NYT)
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 03:33 PM by blondeatlast
Mr. Bush's advisers said they were girding for the most extensive street demonstrations at any political convention since the Democrats nominated Hubert H. Humphrey in Chicago in 1968. But in contrast to that convention, which was severely undermined by televised displays of street rioting, Republicans said they would seek to turn any disruptions to their advantage, by portraying protests by even independent activists as Democratic-sanctioned displays of disrespect for a sitting president.

The sick bastards are desperate.

edit: punchier SL

3. Anyone engaging in violence is not a democrat and not a supporter of Kerry
The crowds should be loud, proud, and should make fun of Bush at every opportunity. They should pass out copies of My Pet Goat to the delegates.

and the American people will buy it hook, line, and sinker.

I've seen some anarchist protests at Kerry rallies; this is gonna play very badly in the media, I'm afraid.

Edit: Mind, I'm on YOUR side about the protests.

6. Now I'm really afraid that there will be plants in the crowds.
We KNOW the FBI will be there--yeegads.

Someone assuage my fears; I won't be there, but I know several who will...

7. I'm hoping Kerry will release a statement beforehand saying NO VIOLENCE!
A direct call to all protesters of all stripes to avoid any violence.

Make it clear upfront and publicly, all over the place. It could go well in a speech, and massive press release.

8. (Putting my tin-foil hat on) Nice thought, but...
won't that be used by the other guys to indicate that they are D sanctioned?

It was a little paragraph in a page 2 article, but this has me really worried for some reason.

10. understand. but if kerry campaign makes it clear that this is in response
to insults and accusations directly from republicans, i think that would be important.

plus he should make it loud and clear anyway. it can mitigate any potential accusation

9. yes - that is a KEY point. also he could say outright that those who may
be violent would IN NO WAY be sanctioned by anyone. and that violence of any kind should not be tolerated. the people of new york have been through too much. and so have all americans...

i liked how some here have pointed out that if there are any shenanigans, that they will link arms and properly call out the person(s) making the problems.

there are many peaceful and much more effective ways to protest bush.

11. Excellent points--and indeed soothing!
Thanks. I wasn't aware of the "link arms" plan. That's great.

I wish I could be there.
