10. I appreciate the rules
But if a national broadcaster breaks a story that we helped uncover here this AM, isn't that news?

And aren't we trying to get the truth out as effectively as possible about the collusion between Bush and the Swiftsmearers?

Cheers.

13. I don't know that we helped uncover it, but we did help to forward
the information.

And you're right--it is news. I'm busy getting ready for work for the upcoming semester and haven't been around television at all.

Will the Olberman program be repeated tonight? I'd just love to see the screen capture that is on my PC replicated on MSNBC.

15. 8 PM Pacific, 11 PM Eastern
I know I'll be watching.

:toast:

DU owes a BIG, BIG round of applause to our very own grasswire for picking up on Digby's blog (http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2004_08_15_digbysblog_archive.html#109305446449877913) this morning. Digby broke it, grasswire yanked it kickin' and screamin' into DU's backyard, and everyone here joined in while we fried it up on the grill.

:toast:

Currently, Digby reports that:

"The RNC lawyers seem to have forgotten to tell their local patriots to ixnay on the wift-boat-say on their official sites, too:

Patriotboy has a screenshot of the Collier County Republican Central Committee soliciting funds for the Swift Boat Liars.

Uh, and it's still on their web site right now at 3:45 PDT on August 21, 2004. Check it out.

The last google cache they have is for August 10th, but they were featuring the book "Unfit For Command" and the Swift Boat ad ready for viewing right up front then, too."

He's right...here's a screenshot I took just a moment ago, and once again I've highlighted it so you can go right to the part he mentions:

27. People should check out their own local RNC Web sites too
If Digby is correct in his assertion...if the RNC is instructing all regional affiliates to scrub the Swift Boat garbage from their sites...there may be a limited window of opportunity for "documenting" their patriotic efforts.

It's illegal for a 527 to do that.

Is there a search strategy that might help to uncover this activity in other states?

Doesn't that have legal significance, like getting caught in the act cleaning up damming evidence? I think it makes the case easier to prove fraud or something. Sorta like, why would you be dumping the name from the web page if you did not think it was wrong?

17. This Story Has Legs Folks
People can relate to simple concepts like the Bush/Cheney campaign pulling down a name mysteriously after an FEC complaint was filed.

Send this one out to Reuters and AP if you know any reporters there. This is good for a three or four day cycle and may explode into a MUCH bigger story.

ANOTHER reason it has legs...whoever the players are from the Bush campaign who are scurrying around removing names from Web Pages and Web Pages from Google caches and so on...doesn't it remind you of a certain Commander Bunnypants who hippity-hopped all over the U.S.A. on Air Force One on 9/11 to save his fluffy-tailed little behind?

You better BELIEVE this story has legs.

Could you give me any info on who the guy is that's on the library board and whether that has come out in the news the last couple days (first I heard of it).

26. There was a second guy "outed" in the U.S. Newswire release today
http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?ReleaseID=34994

I posted this URL in another thread but only excerpted the Cordier stuff:

PAUL GALANTI

JUDGEMENT: Wanted To Ban Draft Dodgers From Public Colleges

"A House of Delegates committee yesterday killed a bill sponsored by Del. Warren E. Barry (R-Fairfax) that would have directed Virginia's state colleges not to admit any young man who failed to register for the draft. Barry appeared before the Education Committee along with a former Navy flier, Paul Galanti of Richmond, who had spent seven years as a North Vietnamese prisoner of war, but the panel nonetheless killed his idea for the second year in a row, this time by a vote of 12 to 8." (Washington Post, 2/5/83)

JUDGEMENT: Called Conservative Christians "Sheep"

"They probably called their little followers. They vote on that one issue. They call them sheep. That's exactly what they are." -- Paul Galanti, McCain's Virginia campaign co-chairman, on the backlash by Virginia's conservative Christian voters after McCain's attacks Monday on the Rev. Jerry Falwell and Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson. AP, 2/29/00

JUDGEMENT: Insulting Disabled Vets?

"Life has a way of throwing curve balls and John (Hager) got beaned by one when he acquired polio as an adult and lost the use of his legs. He would have been forgiven for tossing in the towel, drifting over to the VA hospital and spending the rest of his life feeling sorry for himself." (Richmond Times Dispatch, 6/2/01)

JUDGEMENT: On Critics Of The Vietnam War: "Communist Sympathizers"

"It caused me to question anything I hear from Communists or their many sympathizers or copycats or dupes in America who tended then -- and still tend -- to distort the truth for their personal gain, or even (gasp) to lie if that will achieve the desired end." (Richmond Times Dispatch, 6/17/01)

PARTISAN: Carter-Basher

"I had a great final three years in the Navy despite the devastation Carter's policies had wrought on the military. My last Navy year was under one of the finest-ever Commanders-in- Chief, who led the country out of Jimmy Carter's unlamented and self-caused "malaise."" (Richmond Times Dispatch, 6/17/01)

30. That would be Harlan Crow.
Crow is a member of the founders committee of the Club For Growth, a conservative political group that raises money uses it to influence public policy and elect political candidates who advocate the "Reagan vision of limited government and lower taxes."

Texans for Public Justice and Homeowners Against Deficient Dwellings, public watchdog groups in Texas, have criticized the wealthy businessman for making contributions to Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a conservative political lobbying group which protects the interest of big business. They claim he runs a business which leads the state in workplace deaths and injuries." http://www.savannahnow.com/stories/101401/LOClibrary.shtml

In 1988, he and Vice President Dick Cheney served on the board of trustees of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank that funds research promoting conservative business and political interests. AEI promotes neo-conservative ideals and has close ties to the current Bush Administration. On February 26, 2003 President Bush was the key-note speaker at the American Enterprise Institute. He enthused that, at AEI, "Some of the finest minds of our nation are at work on some of the greatest challenges to our nation. You do such good work that my administration has borrowed twenty such minds. I want to thank them for their service" (Quoted by J. Pilger (2004) the Case for Civil Disobedience in Tell Me Lies Propaganda and Media Distortion in the Attack on Iraq, ed. D. Miller, Pluto Press, p25) AEI has been an avid opponent of the Kyoto protocol, as well as most other environmental regulations. AEI climate science skeptics include James K. Glassman, also of ExxonMobil-funded Tech Central Station. ExxonMobil CEO Lee Raymond is on the AEI board of trustees. ExxonMobil gave AEI approximately $925,000 between 1998 and 2003. http://www.exxonsecrets.org/html/orgfactsheet.php?id=9

Crow is a trustee of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation. http://www.georgebushfoundation.org/bush/asp/OverView/Trustees.asp

When is the media going to report the Crow - Cheney connection?!

THis won't be on for nearly an hour out here in still sunlit CA.

Sounds like Olbermann is pushing that boulder closer to the cliff. Th.e press haas been so easy on BushCo that maaybe Rove and company got sloppy.

One question, though. If this is illegal what would the next step be. Just because something is illegal it doesn't mean that anyone (the FEC or John Asscrack's Justice Dept.) will do a damn thing about it.

40. Olberman rerun - Wow!
Just caught the rerun on MSNBC. Thanks to you who pointed us to it. One of the most devastating and poignant things Olberman said, was the words of one of the Iraqi Olympic soccer players, protesting Bush using them for his campaign ad, and saying of Bush:

"How will he face his God, having slaughtered so many men and women?"

This is a question that we should all put to Bush, every day from now until the election!
