4. interesting .. did the national review one come out first ? |
|
Cause that's pretty damn close to outright plagiarism.

5. Also theres a distinct difference in these two covers |
|
one builds on kernels of truth while the other relies completely on lies. I think the one with the kernels of truth pulls off satire much better.

11. No its not. Just a cartoon. |
|
National Review would never put that cartoon on their cover.

14. Its not inside the magazine either. |
|
Many of us had said that National Review would never do to McCain what New Yorker did to Obama. So somebody tried to make a joke about it and thats the cartoon.
The cartoon fails because it is not really the cover of National Review or in it for that matter.

well i stick to my original opinion the one that has the kernels of truth behind it comes off as the better satire IMHO.

23. Horsey missed it by that much -- still, good cartoon though. |
|
More finessed than the New Yorker's.
Now if he'd had McCain in Nazi garb with Bush in a Hitler pose on the mantel, and Cindy in a dalmation fur coat... that might make a better comparison.

of a lie, the McCain parody is based on fact.

30. Both lack wit or irony. There is an element of sarcasm in both but |
|
it is used merely to reinforce personal stereotypes So, neither are examples of satire.
1 : a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn 2 : trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly
