ThisWeek, with John O'Neill (i.e. How to debate this shill?)
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 11:04 AM by JPJones
They need to find someone who can go toe to toe with this loser.

Podesta just stammered, landing an occasional blow.

Here's the deal - you can't 'debate' John O'Neill. He's lying and you need to call him on it. Period.

I'd like to see the Kerry spokesman with a stack of page-sized pictures of all the people from Kerry's boats who back him up, with their quotes underneath, a la Adlai Stevenson. Pull out a card, and say, "John O'Neill is lying. The SBVs were not on Kerry's boat. Here's someone who was on his boat and this is what he said...". Then flip to the next card and do the same thing.

2. Terry McAuliffe or Max Cleland would be good ones
Cleland especially since he is a veteran.

4. It would be great to see Mike Malloy hammer away at O'Neil
I wish....my wishful thinking.
The Dems are in big need of some heavy hitters on these sleaze bags.

5. I think that guy Hurley (hope that's the right name) is the best.
He has every fact memorized and appears to keep up with it minute by minute.

7. I'd like to see Tweety do to him what he did this week to that
fool of a woman on Hardball. I don't remember her name because I don't want to remember her!

Tweety did a good job, I hope he can do it again!

9. Lehrer had this jackass on and the Boston Globe reporter who
was the counter-puncher just simply said over and over...old news, John O'Neill has been spewing it for 35 years, no basis in fact for any of it, lies, etc.

10. ABC is behind the times....
This guy, O'Neill, is passe. He has been discredited - ABC just doesn't realize it yet. I think most of the other networks are coming to that conclusion.

11. O'Neill Picks Who He Appears With...
He won't go on with Cleland...and if he knows he's being set up, will send a patsy/proxy instead. Matthews tried to get him on Thursday's Hardball to help Thurlow, and the chickenshit stayed away...letting Thurlow and then Malkin get eaten alive.

The guy who has done the best damage against O'Neill has been Lawrence O'Donnell. He had this goon flop sweating and stammering...and can out-talk and out-cool this loser.

The mouthpieces the DNC has sent up against O'Neill have been "too nice". He's an alley fighter...when you go up against this goon, you do so on his terms on his turf (usually a "safe" show like Scarface, Hannity or Wolfie), he always gets the first shot out and won't stop until he's all but shouted down. The response has to be as high-powered and ready to shut O'Neill down the moment he lies again. Don't count on the "moderator" to moderate...he'll also get the last word. So, every time he lies, you attack the lie.

The good thing is one by one his proxies are getting debunked and he's gonna have to stand alone...all alone, soon. Then we send in Max Cleland for the kill!

12. They can't let him "snow"
O'Neill does what I call "snowing" -- he tossed out one flake after another in rapid succession so that it's confusing and overwhelming. He wants to get as many different accusations (or "issues" or "points," he'd say) out there as possible until it's the next guy's turn. He did the SAME thing back in 1971 on Dick Cavett, and I've always wondered what the heck his childhood was like that caused him to hone that particular skill so well.

Anyway, when a host stops him before he gets more than two accusations out at a time, he gets very frustrated -- that's what Tweety did to him.

But usually, they let him go and he blinds them with "snow" before they know it's happening. If somebody made him go one point at a time, it'd be very easy to respond.

And on the rare occasions that happens, he dodges and weaves. Kerry didn't write the bronze star report -- O'Neill answer: Well, he said he was in Cambodia. Kerry might well have been in Cambodia, we know the government was lying -- O'Neill answer: But he chased a kid and shot him in the back. It wasn't a kid, it was an adult VC -- O'Neill answer: his purple heart was self-inflicted.

He's really good at the art of confusion, a master of the snow-job.

13. Great observation
He jealously defends his client, even when the facts aren't there, which most lawyers can do.

But he can also work in soundbites, while most lawyers need unlimited time to be effective. Snowing is one of his techniques, probably his main technique.

How do you counter a snowjob, though?

way they let O'Neil spew his already discredited lies without calling him on it sufficiently.

Why didn't anyone bring up Runyon's article in the Cleveland Plain Dealer yesterday about the first Purple Heart?
