21. At a tie, the House elects the president with each state having 1 vote and the Senate
elects the VP. This would be the current Congress and I believe the REP controls the most states so it would be a REP President and VP (iffy because of 2 IND).

59. Should I rest my case?
America's in the sorry shape its in because BOTH Democrats and Republicans have embraced irrational policies on pretty much every level, from finance and economics, to energy and the environment costly wars.

Yet "unity" requires that we continue to enable the far right agenda and coddle those who've hoisted it on us... and act as if they're somehow the "prodigal sons."

Wow.

Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 02:57 PM by muryan
But you cant ignore unity when selecting a VP prospect, or even cabinet members. That doesn't mean we have to cater to far-right wing zealots, but it does mean we have to include some center-right leaning politicians in the process if we want to build a large coalition to get the things done that need to be done.

I agree with you that a large amount damage has been done by general incompetence on the part of democrats and what usually borders on downright criminality by the republicans, but there is too much work to do, and we cannot allow partisanship to stand in the way.

Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 03:17 PM by depakid
Why on earth would anyone feel the need to further associate the candidate or the party with bankrupt ideas (and the corrupt politicians who still support the discredited ideology behind them)?

These folks have proven time and time again that they're not interested in responsible public policy- much less principled stands on the issues.

Nothing but ill has come out of "compromising" and pandering to them.

and not getting the fact that it's all about policy choices.

You seem to find policies that have proven to work against the interests of ordinary Americans- indeed as has become abundantly clear: AGAINST EVERYONE'S INTERESTS, to be acceptable.

I don't. And (though this is unlikely) I would hope that others might take a look at these policies and what it's done to their healthcare, their retirement, their wages, their environment, their food security- the list goes on- and see who's behind them.

If they like what they see, then by all means enable and embrace those who've brought such fine results about.

If not, then work to make sure folks are relegated back to the minority (or to the fringe) where - due to the consequences of their behavior- they belong.
