10. Yep...live on CNN in twenty minutes.
King Abdullah II succeeded his father Hussein following the latter's death in February 1999. Abdullah moved quickly to reaffirm Jordan's peace treaty with Israel and its relations with the United States. Abdullah, during the first year in power, refocused the government's agenda on economic reform.

Israel next I would assume?

19. am watching now
Obama looks & sounds a little low-key, as though he's kinda fatigued (gee, I wonder why?)... but also very polished and presidential. Reed & Hagel sitting on either side of the outdoor podium where Obama is speaking. Some wind noise in the microphones, unfortunately. And apparently MSNBC cut to the speech after Reed & Hagel had already spoken; will have to look for the transcripts later to see what they had to say. Obama is recapping the highlights of their trip -- what they saw, what they learned, what they heard from local leaders & from folks on the ground. Will be taking questions after the reap.

44. I disagree. It is time to quit dumbing down the presidency. He is not running for beer drinking
buddy. He is running for president. The president SHOULD know more and talk better than the average Joe Sixpack. Besides, "colloquy" encompasses more than just "back and forth". Back and forth is what you do with a beer drinking buddy. Colloquy is what you have with a foreign leader.

71. Summary from Halperin --

On his withdrawal plan: Says he hasn’t proposed a “precipitous drawdown” in Iraq. Said the focus of his conversation with Gen. Petraeus was not on how precipitous his proposal was, but how he would like to retain as much “flexibility” as possible. “My job as a potential commander in chief extends beyond Iraq.”

On the surge: Says it’s unclear what would have happened if they had adopted his plan in January 2007. Adds he’s pleased that because of the troops on the group, decisions by Sunni tribal leaders and opposition militias that the violence has quelled. Said whether there will be a functioning Iraq is largely going to depend on the Iraqi people.

On Afghanistan: Says one of the “most eye-opening” things he learned was how difficult it is for troops to decisively defeat terrorists and the Taliban on the poorest border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. “If we don’t get a handle on that border region we are going to continue to have problems.”

Refuses to slam McCain when asked about his positions, “partly because” he’s overseas with a bipartisan delegation and he hopes they can focus on areas of agreement.

PRESSER GETS ROADBLOCKED CABLE COVERAGE.

Starts off with opening remarks on his reflections of their trip to Afghanistan, Iraq. Says he’s “extremely impressed” by the troops there, reiterates that Afghanistan is the “central front” in the war on terrorism.

“There is security progress. Now we need a political solution. the message we heard from Iraq’s leaders is they’re ready to do more and they want to take more responsibility for their country…I welcome the growing consensus in the United States and Iraq for a timeline.”

Calls again for his 16-month withdrawal plan, refocus troops in Afghanistan.

84. Petraeus doesn't want a time frame; Obama ain't buying it, very
respectfully. Petraeus isn't wearing the prez hat; they both have different priorities and responsibilities (after Obama wins).
Petraeus' opinions could also change in future. Hell yea, why not?

87. watch how our stupid media will keep on spinning how obama
will not say the surge helped, but then again, other factors contributed to the security issues, Sadr called off his army for now, numbers of people have been killed.

Conference is over.

92. MSNBC is pushing the surge hype but a 4 star general isn't buying it
in the simplistic terms that the media trys to spin it. Time to turn off the TV
