NBC breaks promise, doesn't air pro-Obama Iraq poll result
Something bad is up at NBC. Its blog, First Read, promised Nightly News would report the new NBC poll result which found that 60% of Americans support a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq while 30% believe its a bad idea. That's tremendous support for Obama's position. The timeline issue has been at the core of the entire week's news coverage. McCain centered his campaign on opposing the timeline. The poll result is big news out here on the web.

NBC NEWS DID NOT INCLUDE THIS RESULT ON THE NIGHTLY NEWS, EVEN THOUGH IT PROMISED TO

.

This is more proof NBC is biased in favor of McCain. Somebody up top must have got to this poll story before the public had a chance to find out the truth.

Teasing the new NBC/WSJ poll

Here's one result from the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll that will be released tonight at 6:30 pm ET on Nightly News and MSNBC.com... With the news that Iraq's prime minister wants the US to set a timetable for withdrawal, 60% of registered voters believe it's a good idea for the US to set such a timetable, while 30% say it's a bad idea.

7. there are a number of threads about it

1) With 3rd party candidates McCain sinks all the way down to 35% and Obama is 48%

2) IMHO the only negative is a good one 55% think that Obama is riskier.

If you go through the numbers it is clear that America agees with Obama but is still not comfortable with him.

It is much easier to move people emotionally than to get them to change their minds on an issue so I see this as the best kind of negative to have -

11. Oh, those polls..
thanks, again.

If we didn't have the mainstream media manipulating everything in sight Obama would have a smoother time closing the deal but I think their team has taken the media into consideration in order to win and plan on going right through them.

15. Agree, agreed when I watched it. Concerned with proving McCain's policy/temperament riskier.
Even though more stubborn, uncaring years on earth.

3. They covered it on Race to the White house too. If they did not
show it on network news it was probably deliberate.

4. Man! They're not even trying to hide it anymore!
CBS edits its own interview with McCain so he doesn't come off looking confused and out of touch, then NBC refuses to air one of its own polls that shows Americans favor Obama's Iraq plan 2 out of 3.

This, while FOX and CNN and other media outlets continue with their unabashed propaganda in McCain's favor.

There's no question now...

5. Devil's advocate: I don't think they promised to air this specific question
They promised to release the overall poll tonight.

I'm not saying NBC isn't biased. I just don't think Firstread intended that to be a promise to discuss that one question on tonight's Nightly News.

9. I recognized it could be read either way
They could be referring to the result or the poll. However, since they called the blog post a tease, bothered to publish the Iraq poll result while embargoing the rest of the poll, announced the result after the promise, and the size of the news and shocking result makes me believe the sentence was intended to say the result would be broadcast on Nightly News.

12.  Its not just the aircraft engines GE sells to the military
General Electric is also in the business of building and supplying nuclear plants, as well as manufacturing the fuel itself. Last Saturday, NBC Nightly News ran a report, most of which praised the virtues of nuclear power. Basic journalistic standards were violated because NBC did not disclose GE's possible interests.

At the end of the report, they plugged John McCain's plans to build 45 nuclear plants while pointing out Obama's opposition to nuclear energy until safe disposal can be carried out.

Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 07:45 PM by ErinBerin84
Didn't KO just mention that Obama's 6 point lead nearly doubles when third party candidates are taken into account? Uh, why didn't they mention that on Race to the White House. Rise, Barr, Rise!

edit: Chuck Todd just said there might be a higher MOE on this, bc they only did a half sample.

14. So the CABLE channel covers it and the NETWORK doesn't.
The wonks and people who can spend money on cable (that happens to get MSNBC).. find out. And the much greater and more diverse and less well served people in the country do not find out.
