Serious question: does Obama rely on a teleprompter?
These two right wing kooks keep saying that, and I haven't watched enough of Obama's press conferences/speeches in order to shut them up.

Well, African pigeons can, not European pigeons. :)

Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 08:22 PM by woolldog
The press asks you questions during a press conference and you answer them. You can't read your answer to the presses questions off a teleprompter.

edit: you can have some opening remarks prepared and read them, but after that the back and forth is unpredictable.

12. what was going on with that bulge in his back
that looked a lot like a radio device?

you know, during the debates?

I've seen some of his press conferences where he appeared confused, as if listening to see what he should say.

17. That bulge was in his BACK? Geez, he even screwed up the codpiece.
Somebody helped him get it right on that nukular carrier, but the guy obviously couldn't do it again.

Mission NOT accomplished, apparently.

26. I think people took you *literally* when you said "teleprompter"....
And not the extended sense according to which having answers radioed in would also count.

It's certain Obama doesn't have answers radioed in. I don't know how much/often he uses a teleprompter. Certainly nowhere near as much as the dumbass who is our President now, certainly.

13. Didn't he wait to say what Cheney told him to say?
that picture of Cheney lurking in the bushes at a Rose Garden prsser was the funniest - and creepiest - picture of that cretin pulling his puppet strings and watching his marionette jump.

Spooked the eff outta me.

16. I believe he does at some speeches.
I don't think he did at the stump speeches, but I have seen mention of it at some of the special subject speeches. NOT for press conferences. Most speakers DO use them, or at least have them on in case they need to refer to them. It would be a really idiotic thing for a wingnut kook to try to nitpick about. Even their idol Raygun used them.

22. Hell no
His press conferences on his trip were great. He may not be the smoothest in delivery but that's because he actually thinks instead of spewing out talking points. At least he doesn't need notes like McCain.

...in which he was stellar.

He didn't have one in his interviews on the networks.

33. Using a teleprompter from time to time is not the same as relying on one...
Many politicians use teleprompters, for some it is necessary others just have it to remind them of exactly what they need to cover. I would be surprised if Obama has never used a teleprompter, but he certainly speaks without them sometimes so no he does not rely on them. Bill Clinton used a teleprompter as well, but once that teleprompter lost power on him and he kept going and no one noticed. If Bush's teleprompter failed you can only imagine what would happen to him. Even better if someone were to hack into Bush's teleprompter and make some edits to the words that appear on the screen, oh the fun they could have.

36. They always say that. However, McCain ALWAYS uses teleprompter.
In Q & As he pauses a bit to get his bearings. But no..I've been called a great orator, however even in Q & As it takes some time to get my thoughts together and use proper language to express my ideas.
