The best write up I have read on McCain and his gaffes

Believe it or not, I came across this on a football message board. I was very impressed at how perceptive and dead on accurate this description is.

I found this over at BBI on a thread about a McCain mistake being covered up by CBS.

Mc Cain's "straight talk" is increasingly being seen as mean spirited.

His ability to serve in a leadership position is playing out in his campaign. He is indeed a maverick who runs in directions in gut level bursts. The problem is he takes a statement by an opponent, distorts it and then re-interprets the distortion it in a knee jerk negative way. This is certainly a favorite republican pundit strategy, but McCain is a presidental candidate and he does pundit poorly. To disagree with him is to be demonized in McCains mind.

Suggesting Obama is willing to lose a war in order to win a campaign is absurd and unbecoming. To distort basic facts time and time again, to react so violently, is exhibiting a single mindedness, which is dangerous for a president in my mind.

The gaffs seem to reveal that McCain is not as focused on foreign affairs as he pretends to be. They are innocent gaffs to be sure, but the distortions or mythic interpretations which accompany them, demonstrate a lack of real familiarity and a lazy and inflexible black and white world view. McCain holds himself up as as objective reality and feels threatened, and over reacts to any disagreement.

This is in keeping with his prior bipartisan service, in which he tries to work across the aisle on bills, but then pulls back when the other side fails to agree completely with his view. McCain frequently fails to accept compromise and often fails to vote for his own co-sponsored bills.

Every day McCain is making me more and more nervous with the idea of him as serving as president, and comfortable voting for Obama.

2. I liked it. It's a good and objective perspective.

I think McCain is lazy in his pursuit of the prize. He just knows what he knows and goes with what has always gotten him by before. He doesn't recognize the need to grow, change and adapt to current events and modern practices. People bow to his 'war hero/pow' resume and it's carried him a long way. I also think he watched gw (another lazy) and observed how easily they got everything they wanted, with a Repuke majority, and thought to himself, "I can do this. (plus I'm military!)"

It may not be a grammatical masterpiece, but it really hit at the heart of what McCain is all about. He raised ideas and brought up issues, I just hadn't seen before.

We've seen the obvious degeneration in mcCain's mental abilities over the last eight years. What will four more years do to his dwindling intellectual resources?

When people are asked whether mcCain is too old, the group that says the strongest "yes" is Americans over 65. Let's listen to them!

Another thing. Why do the Republicans so consistently run people with known mental problems? The aged Reagan had Alzheimer's while in office. Old Man Dole was doddering and often incoherent, when not actually falling down. Dubya is a "dry drunk". McCain is an elderly dementia victim.

Where do they get these people? Are 300,000,000 not enough to choose from, that this is the best they can do? And why, why, why do we keep electing these defective individuals??

6. I have a Republican roommate who is an Obama supporter, but he just can't seem to wrap

himself around the idea that McSame would be just as bad a Dumbya. I am working on him to get him to see how McSame is NOT the same McCain he voted for in 2000. It's working, little by little.

Obama in Israel and genocide, about linking him to Fidel Castro, and about him stating that Obama would rather win an election rather than a war. He didn't say anything simply shrugged and looked dumbfounded. I asked him to think about it more...

9. It's great but how many on the fence people is that going to reach? The trouble is

the M$M isn't talking in-depth about this stuff. They are too busy covering for their guy, so as always the real info isn't getting out there to the voters. *frustrated*

that hits these excellent talking points. The Internet has reduced the power of the MSM, and we need to take advantage of that.
