More German news on Obama's visit
Here goes with my rough translation. I'm not a professional translator, but I lived in German-speaking countries for quite a few years.

Hurra!

Hurrah! Barack Obama is here. (It rhymes in German.) Germany is happy, and Frank-Walter Steinmeier is especially happy. For days, the Foreign Minister has made no secret of which of the two candidates for US president he would like to see in the White House: Barack Obama. In that respect, he is in line with the majority of Germans. 67 percent want Obama to be the next president of the United States. He embodies the change that Germany, after eight years of George W. Bush's presidency, hopes for.

Yet: unfortunately for Obama neither Berlin nor Frank-Walter Steinmeier votes for the next U.S. president. The election will take place on the other side of the Atlantic. And here the support for Obama is lower than in Germany. Thus far, only 46% of Americans want him as the new president; 42 percent want his rival, John McCain.
. . . .

Obama, the skillful orator (not a great translation), and Berlin, the announced metropolis, go well together. Today, many Americans find the city and its love of life cool. That Berlin was selected as the location for the single largest rally of Obama's trip is not just due to that. The decision in favor of Berlin is the result above all of the significance that Obama's advisors attribute to Germany's and Berlin's rolls in Europe and their position as the fulcrom between the East and West. In the end, Germany is not only valued but also needed by the United States because it is a trusted partner and ally and the largest economic power in the European Union. This idea is not unique to Obama's advisors; McCain's team also knows Germany's value. But Obama's trip leaves no doubt: He will, in addition to all the election rhetoric, offer a change in the relationship across the Atlantic. . . . .

2. I can't either.
Here is a link to German newspapers. There are several in Berlin. I will be watching those. They may have some good photos. I believe some of the events will be televised in Germany.

Here is the link to Germany's equivalent of Channel 1:

3. Great stuff.
Just a minor suggestion from a native: Obama, the brilliant orator...

and: ....Germany's and Berlin's roles in Europe and their position as the fulcrum...

Looking forward to a blow-out love fest in Berlin today
