POLITICO: OBAMA doubts "a million screaming Germans"
July 24, 2008

Obama doubts "a million screaming Germans"

In advance of his Thursday address in Berlin, Obama chats with reporters on the plane, Carrie Budoff Brown reports:

Asked if he expected a million screaming Germans, as some of predicted, Obama said:

"I doubt we are going to have a million screaming Germans. Let's tamp down expectations."

He continued:

"I did not realize - my staff just told me the space is bigger" than he'd first realized, he told the press, who asked if that was a bad thing.

"It is a potentially bad thing," he said to laughs. "We are sort of on the high wire. I was like, 'I'm sorry, how many does this accomodate?'"

ALSO, more praise for Crocker and Petraeus.

On Ambassador Crocker: "A real unsung hero in this whole process. Incredibly savvy, but humble and self effacing."

Petraeus: "an extradinarily capable person."

1. From the German press

Those who want to hear Obama live have been told to start arriving three hours earlier. Berlin authorities say that as many as a million people could attend. Four TV stations are broadcasting the entire speech, and the rest are scrambling to secure prime locations at the site.

2. Why the word "screaming"? Isn't the USUAL term "cheering"? "Screaming" is for terror and fright.

6. Cheering is for old, white, male candidates. Screaming is for
women and minorities. That is Corporate M$M speak.

5. Meh, Dubya can pull in crowds twice that size.
Of course, 9/10 of them are protesters burning him in effigy, but still...
