Why did Obama claim to be a member of the Senate Banking Committee?

I've seen rightists bashing Obama for this and calling him a liar. I've seen it called a "gaffe". It seems odd to me that he would make this kind of mistake and I haven't heard any satisfying explanation.

If the rightists are calling it a lie then I know there is a real explanation.

2. Misstatement. He wrote the bill that went through the committee.

He said "our committee", but meant to say "our bill". It's a gaffe; the Right can have at it. But it is not that significant IMO.

I think he meant to say it was his bill that then went to the Banking Committee and passed.
